Gen 1\'s increased performance with larger tires and wheels?

What’s largest tire size that we can get on the Gen 1’s with out worrying about the tires rubbing?

Is there any definitive increase in both handling and traction when upgrading in tire size (sticking with the Pilot Sports) or is this going to more of a cosmetic issue?

I realize that both the Gen 2’s and 3’s have larger tires and wheels for increased performance but they also have completely different suspensions.

Tire width would be about the only advantage over the stock size. Larger diameter rims allow for bigger front brake rotors. I would think for street use it is mainly cosmetic. I have the 17's on my car which is what you have. When track driving I put 315's up front on a wider sized rim. This will rub at full lock, but if you get to that situation on the track you have other issues to worry about.
This wider front tire and stock suspension and ride height placed third in the One Lap of America Tire Rack Skid Pad shootout at 1.017 g's averaged going left and right. This was on a 200 ft oval. The brand new SRT-10 with its bigger stock sized tires and better suspension could only muster an 8th place finish at .995 g's driven by a professional driver.
