Do any of you have any suggestions as to the proper method for changing the coolant in a Gen I engine? Mine is a 92. Book says to pull the heater hose at the water valve and refill from there. Should the engine be run until hot, thermostat and heater open, then drain and refill? Is it possible to refill through the radiator and top off through the overflow tank?

The manual is somewhat confusing and the suggested procedure does not seem to work well. Any suggestions on proper procedure?

Thanks,

I found it easiest to drain the coolant by removing the lower radiator hose
at the radiator - If I remember right, the drain plug seemed to not want to
open, and I was afraid of damaging it. So give the drain plug a try first. It is a good idea to install a 'T' in
the heater hose - for filling and burping - you can also back flush the coolant
through it.

I personally would suggest holding off til you get a set of Roe Racing silastic hoses (5)...doing this ONCE is enough for ME !!!

Thanks for the information. I found that I could not refill from the Heater inlet. It just seemed as though the water or coolant would not flow in that way. I raised the front end and filled as much as I could into the radiator. I know I will have to fill the overflow as the system burps itself, but I cannot think of any other way to do it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
