Hi, guys,
(I read through the archives but couldn't find any specific answers to my questions.)
The time is close at hand when I finally get my Viper
smile.gif
. I plan on using this as a weekend toy only and just keeping my Jeep as my daily driver. I do not plan on ever driving it in the rain, and it will be garaged. Use of the car will be for weekend cruising and for drag racing - most likely no autcrossing. So here are my questions:
1. Is there any difference between the amount of nitrous that a Gen I motor can handle vs. a Gen II?
2. For those of you with GTS's, do you ever wish you'd gotten a convertible for nice weather?
3. For those with R/T-10's, how is the wind noise over 160 mph if you have the top on?
4. I'd like to eventually build a nice nitrous (maybe also stroker) motor out of the V10. Once the heads, cam, crank, rods, etc. have all been replaced, is there any difference between the Gen I and II engines?
Sorry if these questions are stupid - I'm still learning
smile.gif
. Thanks in advance.
Chris

Good questions except for 1 !!!

-I sometimes miss my RT10 but I always love driving my GTS

- Gen-2 RT or GTS drives much better than G-1. G-1 by comparo is ruder and cruder, and we love em for it.

-There are far more mods available for G-2 than G-1. Planning a builder, go w/ G-2. Totally different block. Stronger.

-G-2 starts w/ +50HP. Less NOS needed for same HP.

- G2 effective 2000 has cast pistons. They require less NOS. Juicers pick 96.5-99 and upgrade the oiling.

- Wind noise above 160mph? That was the only dumb question.
Really dumb in fact! Its noisy.

From your screaming.

Heh, uhh, hehe... Let's put it this way: Do NOT count on HEARING your radar detector at those speeds.

I want a coupe for track/modifactions, but having 60 degree weather makes me LOVE the RT. If you ever did 160 on the street, the only noise you would hear clearly would be the jail cell closing

RTs are the basic tried and true vipers. Squeakly, Leaky and Freaky. Lower power than their later coupe counterparts, but it is the best "pure strain" of all the asps.

If your going to run lots of the juice, then find a 97 coupe. If you want to cruise and have the wind in your hair, then an RT is the only option! Of course, there are always Gen2 RT's... best of both worlds!

Sorry, guys - didn't mean for the question to be stupid. LOL. Do you guys run the hardtop on your RT/10's? How does that compare in terms of road noise to a GTS? Thanks for the replies!

I run my hard top quite a bit lately. I have Vmania windows (slider) and as long as they are tight, the wind noise isn't that bad at all. 90% of of it comes from the top corners of the windows, the windshield piller curves so much it's hard to make a good seal.

The only other coupe i've been in is Sam Kelly's, and I couldn't tell you about the wind noise, all I heard was his exhaust!

But, it's a race car

Hey Chris:

Happy to see that you added the word "hard" before "top" in your second...no third post) when you speak of 160 MPH (you will not have to worry about the soft top at 160 MPH because you would have "left it behind" somewhere between 100MPH & 120MPH).

Anyway, I for one, cannot address the issue of road noise at 160 MPH. However, at VERY low 3 digit speed the factory hardtop of a GEN 2 is very reasonably quiet. It does a surprisingly good job!

Forget the top at 160. The coolest feeling is the wind pushing your helmet back and forth over 140. Ultimate "hang on and go fast" rush you'll feel.

Thanks for all the responses, guys

. The nitrous I'm thinking about is probably going to be a two-stage setup either through BTR, Albert, or Tooofst, with a 150/250 shot. Would a Gen I be able to handle this on a stock bottom end? Thanks again for all the responses - I really appreciate the help!

IMHO; nothing better than an RT10 Gen II; like someone said earlier, the best of both worlds. wind noise from top? just tighten the nuts down a turn or two on the latches, worked like a charm for me and with the custom stereo to drown out wind noise, no problem. its all a matter of personal taste and one thing is for sure; WITH A VIPER THERE IS NO WRONG CHOICE, PERIOD!

You're right - can't go wrong with Gen I or II!

Anybody know the max nitrous shot for Gen I's? Will the setup I mentioned above work? Thanks.
