On a subject that's been beat to death. I have an update to the steel power steering pulley I found aftermarket. It fits like a glove. I've read plenty but couldn't find any info on this particular one. I did some offset measurements before I put it in and was happy with the results. I couldn't find my dial caliper so had to do it the old fashioned way. I got this one through RockAuto for under $20 shipped. Part number in the pics provided.

I am running this same Pulley from Rockauto. Been running since the summer.

I can second this is a great upgrade!

Good find...BUT, keep in mind that the failures in this area can also be due to failure of the P/S pump bracket itself. Thus, most of the aftermarket fix-it-kits for Gen II Vipers include a billet pulley and bracket.

Good find...BUT, keep in mind that the failures in this area can also be due to failure of the P/S pump bracket itself. Thus, most of the aftermarket fix-it-kits for Gen II Vipers include a billet pulley and bracket.

I agree, Got my billet bracket from Roe Racing for about $80 after one of my Power steering bolts seized and broke off during timing cover gasket replacement.

I did not get the pulley with it, however.

Another thing to note, the PS high pressure hose in OP's original picture doesn't seem to be routed like stock. I know mine goes behind the pump, then down to the steering rack behind the front brace.

Was just getting ready to order a billet pulley and bracket for about $175 + shipping. I think I'll definitely try the Rock Auto pulley for under $20! After all, any steel or aluminum pulley that's not plastic will likely be perfectly fine.

I wonder if they also have a steel or aluminum mounting bracket? Going to check RAuto to see.

A Colorado company called IPSCO is also advertising some Viper parts, including a billet pulley and bracket. Roe racing states that Gen1 (92-96 R/T 10) Viper bracket requires "3 spacers". The Gen 2 apparently does not.

IPSCO doesn't mention any spacers. I'll need to call them for some more clarification on these spacers as I have both a 96 R/T 10 and a 98 GTS in need of the improved brackets. (I have already replaced the 96 R/T 10 pulley years ago, but not the bracket at that time).

It would be helpful to me if Viper owners also mentioned the year and model of their cars when sharing valuable advice.

Looking very closely at the two stock images of the billet bracket offered at both web sites.. they appear to be machined identically.. likely by the same company. In fact the photos appear identical.

Thanks for posting this for us fiscal viper owners. I like seeing how we can save money and still enjoy our rides. I had to get a DRL module when I was getting the federal inspection on it for Canada....$250 from Dodge or a $10 used from a caravan from the wreckers, yes please. I bought 2009 rims with no center caps....$200 for Viper ones or $40 for PT cruiser ones (with no viper emblem obviously), yes please. I love seeing helpful stuff like this. Sometimes we need to tighten the purse strings.

I agree a billet bracket replacement is a smart choice. I just wasn't to hot on the idea of a shiney billet pulley in there all by itself looking out of place. I knew there had to be a viable option in steel that looked factory.

this is the old site goto https://ipsco.org/newsite/ and do a search for IPS155 and you will be able to see the two options for the bracket.

We should start a column titled "sourcing alternative cheap parts and ingenuous repair work-arounds for thrifty Viper owners". !!

To save money, I'm sure Dodge built these cars using as much stuff as they could from their existing parts inventory... "$10 off a wrecked Dodge Caravan... $250 from Dodge if it's for a Viper". Wow, pretty cool. Recycling at it's finest.

Hey, I've got a cracked plastic piece on a 96 R/T10 that little plastic finger grip - door pull piece sunk into the lower part of the passenger door panel. They are hard to find and pretty darn expensive for what looks like $1 worth of plastic. Somebody, please tell me it's identical to that of a 96 Dodge Avenger, or something. LOL.

Has anyone here had any luck on ipsco brand lowering caps for the gen Vs. They sell on Ebay for 200??

What do you mean "had any luck?." Do you mean ordering and getting the part from the seller on eBay? I don't know them; but the username is similar to one used by someone on the Viper forums. If you are concerned about ordering from an unknown seller on eBay, I would recommend buying them directly from the maker, Mark, at IPSCO. Link above. Same price and he has an excellent reputation amongst Viper owners.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I noticed that the steel pulley from rockauto is a press fit while the billet option from IPSCO is taper lock. Was it difficult getting the press fit pulley on? Did you have to heat it? I would rather retain the stock look with the black pulley if possible. Also, any thoughts on weight? Probably doesn't matter, but I guess the aluminum pulley would be closer to the weight of the OE pulley.

The rockauto pulley goes on just like any power steering pulley. Most auto parts store have a free tool loaner program. Just get the power steering removal/install tool and follow directions. That said, the IPSCO pulley and bracket is a great upgrade.

I also have the Cardone steel pulley. Installed it a couple of months ago. No issues whatsoever. I also upgraded the bracket.

Thanks for the quick responses and good idea on the tool loan! I do have a pulley puller, but probably not the right bolt/nut combo to get it back on. I did this many years ago on a supercharger pulley, so bringing back memories. Will go ahead and pick up the ipsco bracket and cardone pulley.

Nice write up, and great find.. I have replaced a bunch of these with Doorman part# 300-306. Yes they are plastic like OEM, but appear to be better made in the hub area which is where these start to spin and overheat, and ultimately fail over time. I figure if the car gets another 20 years out of this, that will be just fine. $13 part on amazon. I also am not a huge fan of the big shinny ipsco pulley. This is a precautionary job that MUST be done. This is not a repair you want to make on the side of the road, in a smoking hot engine bay.... LOL. Ask me how I know.. hahahahaha
