Guys this is a no brainer

Vipers are the next cash cow...Just give me a sec here to explain...

Think about a 2002 acyra nsx for a second...87K brand new..0-60 in 4.6 seconds with a 290 HP v6...

But a 2002 nsx sells for 55K no questions asked...My good friend got 67K for his 2005 nsx a year ago...Their were 30K nsx's produced from 1991-2005..Its somewhat exotic but lacks power and styling. I loved my nsx but you need a wide body kit and rims ect to look anywere near as awesome as any stock Viper... But still a 2002 nsx is in the 50's all day.

Then look at the Toyota supra..35-40 K brand new with a whopping 290 HP..Lack luster styling in stock form and 0-60 in 4.9 seconds..You absolutely have to add rims and wide body kit or at a minimum rockers pqanels and wing ect. To look anywere near the level of a stock viper. The supra holds no were near the semi exotic status that the nsx holds in japan or the Viper on American shores yet their are only 30K supras in existance...So with lack luster styling and lackluster stock performance and a low entry price of only 40K why does a 1998 supra sell for 35K no problem while a 1998 GTS will bring in 32K all day????

The Viper is just as exotic as the nsx and has 110 HP or 160 HP or 220 HP more than the nsx and supra depending on gen 1 gen 2 or gen 3 viper...At only 27K Vipers ever produced it is everybit as rare...So why does a 1998 nsx sell for 40K and a 1998 supra sell for 35K while a 1998 Viper is 32K...

because up until 2010 the viper was still in production while the nsx ceased in 2005 and the supra on american soil in 1998

Thats the nature of the beatse. When they stop makeing somthing then people hold onto them more and thus less are for sale and prices are higher..Viper prices have went up dramatically in the past 18 months..Several thousand dollars.. The viper is a rare exotic big powered sports car with an awesome T1 raceing heritage as well as Lemans and more recently the ring and streets of willow ect.

I mean honestly..The 8.0 litre in your viper is the largest engine available to the general public in a production vehicle..

I hope they do make a 2013 viper...But for now lets hope they keep going up in value

Thank you so much for sharing the data John Bennett! I knew I wasn't going crazy in thinking that KBB had a few thousand jump in value for the GenII snakes.

It is encouraging to see how quickly the value jumps when the Viper is not in production. I guess after 2018 (guessing that is the last year of the Viper due to Café law deadlines), the price and value of the Gen IIs will continue to climb.

Just ran a KBB price check on my 97 GTS with 13K on it and came back 45K.
And thats's not even taking into consideration it's a B/W.
I like it.

thats because the general younger crowd feels they can afford them and by nature the viper honestly has a luxurious luster about it that other sport cars lack. i dont feel the corvette has this appeal. younger people feel this car is just out of their range insurance/cost wise.

i just turned 29 and ive dreamed of owning one since i was 12. i started browsing seriously almost 4 years ago. i truly wanted a red 94 viper. i finally found what i was looking for, i almost pulled the trigger around 4 times but it didnt feel right. one night i saw a 94, red 31k miles. new black pc 5 spoke, AF double bubble top, interior was redone in black (he had the seats reupolstered; verified upon bottom pad removal) car was freshly repainted with all decals removed except the snake on the hood, it came with leather bra, 2 piece canopy cover, corsa exhaust and gave me the originals, gray soft car cover...i know im forgetting stuff. anyways i snapped on it for $19750.

Let's not forget that we are slowly pulling away from a recession. The issues in Egypt caused a very minor setback, but 09-10 were bad years for value of anything, unless you're trading short.

Interesting point about the stop of production v. value, it's the oldest model in the book, supply and demand. Shame the Gen V's will screw that all up! I also disagree with the NSX and Supra comments in regards to looks, the NSX looks very streamlined supercar, I went around downtown with a buddy of mine, him in his NSX, me in the GTS, and he easily got twice the looks. Supra's look terrible with body kits, but I'm just a fan of wheels and dropping any car a little to look good.

Also, I just checked the KBB of my car, I got it in Dec. of 2009 and I believe the value was right around $34k (97 GTS, 30,000 miles) just checked it today, excellent private party: $42,070, good condition: $40,920. Pretty impressive jump, I'm surprised, and the car is pretty much immaculate. I understand the value is what people are willing to pay, and I don't think I could sell it for that in stock condition, too many out there right now. Plus, I'd never sell it :).

I'm not sure how I feel about younger people thinking it's out of their price range, I bought mine when I had just turned 24, nobody pays for my stuff. People have exactly what they feel they deserve at any given time.

I gage the future on what the youngsters say about Vipers. My son is 21 and has lots of friends with sooped up Hondas and Supras . Guess what , they all say Viper GTS before SRT's , no BS.
They do like the ACR's of course but appreciate the rawness of the Gen I and Gen II Vipers. So some of the older folks here [ I'm 64 btw;)] who upgraded to Gen III and Gen IV from a Gen II could be wrong as future collectability of the Gen II goes .:eater:If you want to track your car ,it's a no brainer more HP and handling is a must.

If there are only a fewer buyers and lots of very clean/low mileage Vipers for sale, it doesn't matter what KBB says any car is worth.

If a buyer can have their pick, he's gonna be able to negotiate and get what he wants for less...and it might be under KBB value.

Gen4 & Gen3 vs GTS... Recently sold...

2000 ACR $52k

Dodge : Viper - eBay (item 180615528554 end time Jan-23-11 10:59:44 PST)

Interesting sale here. And it sold for almost 52K? :crazy2:

After 2 minutes of looking at the info...

The front fascia is way too clean, mis-aligned with the headlights and missing the clear paint protection film on the lower sides. Obviously a repaint or maybe more?

Lots of corrosion evident on the rear fascia bolts and under body.

The clutch fluid is dark. I bet the brake fluid looks the same.

Original tires? Most likely.

Brake rotors look nasty

Hoses/ belt, etc are most likely origional...time to change those

sold at auction after 5 months from new? Wha? :crazy2:

I saw that sale on Ebay. I would really be shocked if that deal was funded, as it was someone hitting BIN, and not actually bidding. It most likely was followed by an email saying "sorry, I hit the wrong button" My bad.

If it was paid for, wow!!... Yes, the front facia has clearly been reworked, at a minimum.

It's a one year color and the year is 2000 which has neither the forged motor or ABS.

Im not even getting into the gen two vs gen three debate....had em both and im on my second srt10 purchase, so that tells you how i feel......with that said the gen 2 is an amazing car....gen 3 is just a lil more my style.....really goona depend on who you ask and were you live ect....never gonna be a clear winner in that debate tilten years from now and either a 02 gts or 03 srt is clearly worth more than the other...as of right now they are very close......

with the nsx...well i had a nsx and srt parked in my driveway for the past few years and without a doubt my srt gets more attention....people pull beside me and yell holy shi$ your car is amazing.....never happenned in the nsx...but diehard car enthusiast prefered the nsx because they dont make em anymore.....

As far as the NSX and Supra go... I'd like to have both of those cars... More so the NSX because the mid-engine design and low profile sleek body make it very unique. As far a the legacy of those cars stands they are still both just 6 cylinder Japanese cars. The legacy of the NSX is anemia... The first thing everyone thinks when they see one is "why didn't they put more power in it" The Supra image is like "Wow...what a bad ass Celica"

The Legacy of the Viper is a larger than life Big Displacement, Big Power V10 Heart in your Mouth Exotic Beast right out of the Cave. The Gen1 and Gen2 cars are the Cobras of their day...

While the NSX and Supra are both very nice desirable rides they actually make people appreciate cars like the Viper even more...

Supra! = a celica with capability to make a ton of power and relatively easy
Supras have a bunch of records under its belt and that helps make it desirable. The ricer crowd had chosen the supra too. Nice, clean stock supras go for a good buck

I have been calmly looking for a Viper and it seems that the Gen II value and sell prices are climbing. Even KBB seems to reflect this. A nice gen II and early gen III have seem to have the same value.

I wonder if Gen II'***** their bottom dollar last year, and are now on the up swing in value. I know supply and demand is in play; however, I think the Gen II Viper will be that body style that will be timeless, like the original Shelby Cobra.

Anyone else notice this trend??

I think you are right on with that assesment..although i love the look of the early RT/10,i think the Gen II is going to be the one that increases with time in value. I don't know though because some days i think my 94 RT/10 is the best looking Viper made and other days i think the same of my 99 GTS .Then again they are all beautiful !:2tu:

KBB says my car's value is $49k. I've had it listed under $40k for 5 months. KBB doesn't have much weight.

This is the kind of positive thread chat we all need to have more often. It is quite disheartening to see Viper owner's telling folks how little things are worth, how the market is down, without regard to quality, mileage, color, etc.

There has definitely been an upswing of late, though it is apparent the guides are not sure where to land --- there can still be a 4-5K swing between NADA, Edmunds, and KBB. There are alot fewer Vipers going through the Auctions, and that has helped owners. These cars , whether on electronic auctions or physical auctions, are not always the best examples of the marque, though some of the guides have only viewed them to figure out values. With fewer even appearing there the markets have gone up some.

The biggest hurdle , though one we see easing ,is the Banks, who have been booking all vehicles for those requesting loans. With the Gen II market coming back, this is a big help , as financing older cars is a bit tough at times. The Gen III market did not drop as much , and being newer it was an easier prospect.

You are proud owners of a very unique machine, talk it up, as a negative vibe from owners can actually affect you, personally.

Hey Nick,
what year is your car. You should list it here too. If it is listied, post up the link.

Gen I/II values will go up, just a matter of time. I like TVC's analogy that he'll charge $1 for each mile driven. I'm up to $48, 500 worth on my 99 :D :D. Goes up everyday, not including the "owner prep" fee.............:omg:

+1 Bill. Thank you for always leading by example on what it means to be a positive Viper owner and enthusiast.

The Gen I-II Vipers are very special cars in our generation of American Muscle car history. I am curious to see the trend in the next couple of years. The Gen V may mix things up a bit, but no doubt it will increase the popularity of the Viper. Although I would love to buy an affordable Viper, I think it is important for the vehicle to maintain a certain exclusivity in price. As I said, I think the rock bottom of Gen II Viper prices were 2010. Welcome 2011 :)

I was contemplating between the 1972 Challenger 340 4 stick and the Lotus Europa in 1972 and ended up buying the Challenger for $5400out the door. Had the car for 8 years and sold it for $3000 with 90K miles on it. Also had a 68 Barracuda 4 spd convert at the same time that looked boring at the time ,so sold it for $1500  My expert friends were saying I was lucky to get that much for the car because it would loose value even more on the long run .If I kept either cars until today ,guess which car would fetch the most .The original Challenger and Cuda had a distinctive style and shape just like the Gen II Viper. I think the Gen II with its voluptious shape will attract people in any era ;):rolaugh:

True on the history of the car, but I have not done a VIN check so I have no idea how many owners or any other history.
But personally I think that car looks Fantastic, I like the wheels and blacked out look.
Will agree about the cup holder but at that price it would not put me off, I wish I had some spare cash and a bigger garage :2tu:
Hey guys. This is my car, or it was. The car is perfect, clean car fax I am the second owner of the car. Say what you want about the mods on the car. All of them can be removed or reversed, stock parts are included in the sale. The car has been driven and is not a garage queen. I did not have to sell because of any financial problems.
I priced the car to sell, People asking $40k + for these cars are going to be sitting on them for a long time in this economy! Anyway I have a good deal on a 2006 SRT10 with aero kit so I'm jumping on it. Other wise I would not have sold it. Great car for me for the past 5 years problem free. Drove it to VOI 11 and back 1700 miles in six days not an issue. Say what you want that car was badass! Track one day street the next gota love it. Hope the new owner takes care of it in TX.

My cousin had a 1974 Europa S... Don't knock it til you've tried it... OMG was that a fun little car... and talk about a head turner... Talk about a Go Kart Ride... Your ass feels like your riding a Tobbogan... I'd take a nice Europa over a Supra. They really never appreciated much though...

Plum , the Challenger was my DD . No matter what car you have ,there's maintenance. Despite the fact chrysler products were pretty inferior back in those days there were only minor issues with the car. Radiator leaked two weeks past warranty , Was fixed under warranty. Heater core leaked 6 months passed warr period , I replaced it with a 1970 Cuda heater [$20 ] from a wrecker , never a problem after that. The only other problem I had ever after ,the distributor pin sheared off 1/2 mile from a Chrysler dealer and I was back on the road quickly. The engine and A833 tranny never gave me any problem ,and I've gone through two clutches because I towed my boat with the vehicle that had the 3.23 rear gears. Should have swapped it out to 4.10's early.

v10enomus , The only part I didn't dig on the Europa was the rear, also the body was pretty thin fiberglass.Saw one involved in a collison and that made my choice to stick with the Chally ;).My neighbour had two of them and when the Lotus Elise came out he sold them both to hop in one.he got so many tickets with the Elise , he was barred from driving it for a while ,so it's just sits in his garage :lmao:Local dude has a Europa with a cChevy 4.3 V-6 shoehorned in it.I'm not knocking the car since I driven one and it's fun ,but so is my friend's Lotus Super7 I can drive when I want! I'd prefer a Lotus Elan to the Europa any day.

I'm thrilled with how well the price of my Vipers have held up compared to Corvettes, Ferraris and other sportscars of similar ages.
