Gen IV ACR vs. Non-ACR

What are the performance / ride differences in a 2008/2009 ACR vs a non-ACR. My understanding is the drive train is exactly the same. Different suspension, brakes, wheels and tires. I love the look of the ACR but opted for a non-ACR because the tires & suspension on the ACR seemed more track oriented than street oriented. I don't track my car and didn't want an overly harsh ride. As you guys know, you don't exactly get the luxury of test driving both before you buy. Would love to hear comparisons from guys who have owned/driven both.

Sounds like you are on the money. Most ppl buy ACR's because they like the looks, the attention and 'street cred.' Look at the threads, its a fact. Sure, its more track capable out of the box. At the same time, there are drawbacks that you have identified. Enjoy your new Viper, and be careful! Love the black and red stripes.

Mine is only for the track. I do not drive it anywhere else. Hell, I am actually a little embarrassed to drive it around because of the big ass wing.

Set it for the track and it will ride rougher on the street but be lots faster on the track than a regular Viper. (Equal drivers implied of course)
That's the beauty of the fully adjustable suspension.

EXACTLY..... last week I drove my 2006 SRT-C and same-day drove Doris' new 08 ACR..... the only noticable diff is the 100 HP ! And the blind-spot wing end plates are annoying in my side mirrors on occasion...I think someone has crept into my blind spot!

The OE ACR ride is a bit stiffer at the rear due to stiffer springs....but not adversely so. The runf-flat 03-06 was just as stiff as 08 ACR rear springs! Glad I have PS2 now.

With what damper settings? In the recommended street settings (as the car comes), the ride is pretty soft, but its really under-damped for spirited driving. In the recommended track settings it definitely doesn't ride badly, but its definitely very stiff.

The owners manual states the full soft settings are for the street. I would think that a little adjustment would work for you to firm it up just a little. The adjustments should not be done drastically and remember the stiffer the settings the quicker the valving can were along with the seals. This is just the nature of a racing shock.

Are we forgetting the original thread question? NON ACR vs ACR ride......

As my reply stated 'with the OE ride' ........That is OE settings ACR vs OE Non-ACR.

In my opinion, the OE ACR settings and the 1100 lb springs (!) make the rear end STIFFER than the non-ACR with its much softer springs. But TIRES MATTER. RunCraps are STIFF.

I have the aero so its not the "big ass" wing of the acr but it was a must have for me. No embarrassment here about driving with it on the street. The wing makes the car in my opinion.

Well if u're not going to track the car why not just add the moton/eibach suspension then u can adjust the stiffness of your ride....If u're not going to track the car then u don't really need all that extra downforce of the acr wing....upgrade to the stoptech rotors as well and u're car will have everything the acr has except the rims and the extra downforce....your car will look like an acr , will be as low as an acr and pretty much the same weight

PS.. add the belanger system while u're at it

But it CAN BE: Just dial the ACR in stiffer! Or add adjustable shocks/springs (from KW under $3200) to a NON ACR.

Spoke to an ACR owner last weekend (beautiful car). Says he was expecting a firmer ride, but was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable his ACR. This was after making a 4 hour drive to the event.

Trust me you can make it REALLY stiff on the firm settings. I don't know that many have played with them because of the fear of breaking the sticker for warranty purpose but I had to, mine which was a VERY early one, (second one to Woodhouse) came set on full firm, trust me when I tell you full firm is VERY firm. No worries though, I took it on a trip that way before I realized it. It feels like a locomotive on rails at anything over 70mph too. Turn in is incredible.
And if you read the downforce numbers in the SRT Engineers forum you will get a LOT more downforce from that "big ass wing" on the ACR. It IS a lot bigger than the Aero wing.
