Gen IV trunk air pump and tire sealant bottle??

Has anyone used the trunk mounted tire air pump and tires sealant bottle to fix a flat on the road? If so, how much of a mess was inside the tire/wheel to clean up or is it not a problem? I have a 2008 ACR "********* Edition" which of course did not come with these items and I am wrestling with getting these items and putting in the trunk. Or should I just bank on good luck with no flats????

What does it do to the tire pressure sensor...does it destroy it? I think it is over a $100 part...is that about right?

Deff a good piece of mind to have both. If you find yourself with a flat on a road with little to no shoulder, put in the goo, pump up the tire and go. Now your not risking the car getting hit or Messed with while you might have to walk along way to get to a phone or a place that gets reception. And lets not forget the "not so carefull" tow truck driver that scratches the $hit out of the front facia putting it on the flatbed. Piece of mind goes along way. JMOA

Thanks guys...your input prompted me to go ahead and buy this little "peace of mind" item from one of our fellow Viper brethren in our own VCA classifieds. Great resources available on the VCA website.

You can get the official Mopar one (not gonna tell you it's not good, haven't looked at the classifieds), or just get a cheap can of Fix-A-Flat and a cigarette-lighter air compressor and have the same thing.

Edit: Walmart carries a Fix-A-Flat kit that's exactly the same thing (can of goo plus an inflator) for $29.97. Doesn't look as good in the trunk, but effective.

I have a different solution. I have an air pump in the trunk and a set to plug the tire. Nice and clean fix.

Never needed it on the Viper but have in my other cars also such a set and works like a charm. A friend of mine once used a tyre sealant but what a mess was that!!!

I, on the other hand, did use a plug on my '05 and never had any issues at all. Ran it until it was replaced. I would strongly caution against using the foam fill or any other liquid fill. Many years ago I used it on a car and at reasonable speed the wheel became an unbalanced rock. Scared the bejesus out of me as it felt like the front end was falling apart. Unless the tire is truly circumferential, the liquid will reside in the spot that is farthest from the hub and you can imagine the imbalance, as I did.
As far as getting the kit, the Walmarts, its spinoffs, and parts stores carry these for chump change. I've had uses on other vehicles and try to keep all my cars stocked as well as the suggested cigarette lighter air pump.

I just ordered a very basic tubeless tire repair kit from Harbor Freight...normally $5.99...on sale now for $4.99. Item # 45183 ~ 9 piece kit. I ordered two for that price. Hopefully will never need it so if it only sits in the Viper trunk and never gets used, Hooray!

This is what I keep in mine. Slime 70004 Power Spair kit. I bought a larger bottle of the sealant than what comes with the kit.


Haven't had to use it yet (knock wood).

How hard is it to wire the gen 4 air compressor into a gen 3?

It is portable and plugs into the power socket on the console just like your radar detector or GPS. No hardwiring needed. It will work on any car at all including Gen1,2 and 3 cars.

A word of caution to anyone planning on relying on that POS air compressor on the road. Give it a test to make sure it works. I tried to use the air compressor side once and it shot the tire goo out as well even though I had the switch in the correct position. It made such a huge mess I threw it out.

I carry the continental tire kit in all of my cars, very compact comes with the goo and its a great little compressor too. That and a plug kit.

I must have jinxed myself. My right rear had a leak yesterday, and I used my Slime kit for the first time. Everything worked fine, but hand squeezing the Slime bottle to get it into the tire was a pain and messy when some dribbled onto the rim. But it immediately sealed and held. The compressor was quiet and didn't bounce around, but it sure gets hot! I may throw a thick glove into the kit for handling it immediately after inflation.

Now to replace these five-year-old PS2s. I'm thinking of getting 295s for the fronts...
