Gen V and Pirelli

I would think the main reason Michelin isn't producing (or they might have just finally started producing) the rear tire size for the Viper was because there were too many of the PS2's out there. There aren't many cars that can use that size and with the PSS supposedly being so much better than the PS2, they had to get stock on on the PS2's first, or they would have just rotted away becuase eveyone would jump to the PSS.

I'm sure there could be other factors as well, but from a business standpoint, it doesn't make sense to make a new low volume tire until you get rid of your current inventory of the old ones.

I guess the Pirelli link is only the beginning, questions about Pennzoil oil are now answered as well.

Hmm....Pirelli's were on my Ducati's, never a problem. Great tire.

Have Scorpion ATR's on my truck. 50k and counting. Correct pressure and rotation helps here.

P-Zero's on the last... I don't know how many cars I have had. Never problem 1.

Maybe I am lucky, or maybe some just don't have any luck. You decide.

Problems I have seen have come from too little pressure.

Maybe the worry-warts should just chill out and let Pirelli work with "Team Viper" and design the tire before crying.

Happy for you Jerome, you are obviously a Pirelli fan and had some luck with them! My experience with Pirelli has been much different on my SUVs, trucks and cars. You are right that pressure has a lot to do with tire life, but what I have experienced on these Pirelli tires are something different; just plain old pre-mature wear on all four tires, not just one. For all our sakes, I hope I am wrong and Pirelli is smartening up, but I am not expecting anything great. Team Viper can work with them all they want, but they are still a Pirelli. It's hard to swallow the brand after being burnt multiple times in the past.

Things I should have noted, I get my alignment checked every 10k also. Rotate every other oil change (5-6k)

I would not say I am a Pirelli fan, just happen top use what works for me. Mind you, if I was going to race in some way, I would be using a tire best suited for the type of racing I was doing. I don't expect any tire I run to last on the street and be able to hold its own at the track.

My Sti is getting new tire when I get my new O.Z's, just not sure which Pirelli I will be using. Looks like a call to Luke is in order.

Alignments are important as well. The Pirelli four sets I have had over the years on various vehicles, they did not wear funny in the inside or outside, they just simply wore all over and very quickly. I was also not impressed with the Pirelli Scorpions. They were a very harsh ride with lots of noise.

Sorry, I hear what you are saying but I just can't bring myself to buy another Pirelli. Other manfacturers have hit and miss as well. Example are Michelin Diamaris 4X4 on my Cayenne Turbo S. Maybe 15,000 miles and done. Crap tire! But Michelin Lattitude Diamaris, great tire, quiet and over 20,000 miles and counting with lots of rubber left. Then again it is new Supersport type of technology in that tire.

Ah.........tires!

Yeah but someone decided to put the PS ZP on the Gen 3's. One of the worst tires ever and really not safe @ all. Hopefully another similar decision doens't get made with the Gen 5.

I doubt many have had the chance to experience the Pirelli Trefeo. Not a lot were let into the country before they were stopped and re engineered. They had TONS of grip but weren't lasting as long as Pirelli was hoping. They have just recently started producing them with the new compound and my business partner has them on his SL. Best tire he's had on the car so far and he's gone though 3-4 manufactures. He runs the PSS on his street wheels and they aren't even close in comparison to the grip the Trefeo's have. IF they make a Trefeo for the Gen 5 EVERYONE will be happy. I'll bet $$$ on it

Trofeo's are a track tire...r-compound. And will probably not be put on a "regular" viper except an acr model.

Yea but they wont put Trofeo's on as oem tires from the factory. From what Ive read though they are better than the pilot sport cups though but very very hard to get for some reason.

Reps from BOTH manufacturers drink the kool-aid which dictates that any tire issue was brought on by external conditions. After selling over 100,000 tires over 30 years
(with emphasis on recent history) there is little to choose from between the two.

I hope they are an ordering option on regular cars and standard on ACR's

I had two Pirellis that were defective. One was out of round as verified by a Pirelli dealer, second failed the road force check that Tire Rack performed. Was something over 35, which as I understand it is too high. Never an issue with a Michelin tire. Pirellis were the ONLY brand I've ever had a problem with after 40 years of driving.
