I would think the main reason Michelin isn't producing (or they might have just finally started producing) the rear tire size for the Viper was because there were too many of the PS2's out there. There aren't many cars that can use that size and with the PSS supposedly being so much better than the PS2, they had to get stock on on the PS2's first, or they would have just rotted away becuase eveyone would jump to the PSS.
I'm sure there could be other factors as well, but from a business standpoint, it doesn't make sense to make a new low volume tire until you get rid of your current inventory of the old ones.
