GEN-V considered a mid-engine?

I hope I'm not beating a dead horse, but I have a 2013 full color sales booklet and on page 10 it says "All-Aluminum, Mid-Engine 8.4 Liter V-10..."
Is it considered a mid-engine because the engine is between the front and rear axles? Are all Vipers then considered mid-engine, because both of mine have the engine behind the front axle? My 98' brochure didn't call it a mid-engine.

I've heard Vipers described as mid-engined several times. It just depends on your definition of the term I guess.

From what I've gathered over the years mid engined used to be the engine mounted rearward but essentially between the axles. Nowadays they basically have the same setup but with the engine frontward but still between the axles. I've heard the term front mid-ship used to refer to this if my memory serves. So from that standpoint the Viper and other cars like it are mid engined.

Part of the Euro-nization of the Gen 5 makes it sound more exotic.

Well with the nose being 70% of the car how can it help but be mounted between the axels?

In automotive design, the end centers of the crankshaft has to be between the axle centerlines in order to be considered mid-engine. So if the front center of the crank is behind the front spindle axle centerline, it's consider a mid-engine.

Not sure if that answers any questions... just replying it if not known...

Is it just me or is the Gen IV engine not centered fully Left/Right in the engine bay? Looks like it is offset about 3/4" to the passenger side to me.

Viper has been called "Mid Engine" by magazines over the years and Team Viper ALWAYS made sure you knew it was mid engine, which by the meaning (between Axle) it is. The Smarter people than me (most of you and the folks I know at Chrysler) told me front Engine = portion OVER the front axle, Rear Engine = Portion OVER the rear Axle, and Mid Engine = Engine placement BETWEEN the Axles (front or rear).

Now how true or factual Who's to say, but this is what I have been told.

You. Its is purposely not centered because racecar. The slight offset to passenger side allows for a better corner weight balance when the driver is in the vehicle.

Agree with Steve F. and sorry Jon, but no Europization, as I have been telling customerfs it was mid engine since the 90s. It was more to explain to folks the balance of the car , as the gross assumption was it was extremely front end heavy , when it actually was always close to 50/50 weight distribution.
