Was thinking about buying a new Viper when the Gen V's come out; but, I won't be since supposedly they won't be making an ACR version the first year.

While talking to Ralph at VOI, he said they'd be released in this order:

Coupe
Vert
ACR (the next year)

Back then all they had to do was design a car to beat a 7.22. Now, they gotta beat a 7.12 :D

I sure do hope that is the order. I really want to see what the vert looks like. I wonder if they will have one (a vert) in NY in april but do someting like takes orders on the coupe first, then orders on the vert at a later date.

Have they ever done an ACR the first year of a design? It's unusual that they're not starting with the roadster.

It takes more time to develop a ACR model.

After the coupe is released they and new owners can take it to the track. Data and feedback can be analysed and areas of improvement can be determined.

Then they can look at available technology to add track performance. Only then should an ACR edition be released.

The huge success of the ACR has stimulated the entire SRT line to develop higher performing versions of the standard Dodge vehicles.

I am sure they understand that the ViperNation wants every model released at the first offering, but SRT will release no line before it's time : >)

An Aero coupe option in year 1 would be cool. Roadster first is more sports car than supercar protocol.

it would take all the fun out of it if we got it all at one time

The logic to doing the Coupe first is quite likely based on the fact that it gets a model to the track faster. We all know Ralph's passion is to get the Viper back into the fray , racing amongst it's competitors. A convertible first would further delay that process ,as well as lengthing the build of a new ACR. Lastly , with the popularity of the Coupe over the convertible over the years ( though not by alot ), marketing wise it also makes sense to build what is the slightly preferred model , sales wise.

The track-ability of the new Snake, though, I firmly believe is the absolute main focus to get a Coupe done first and foremost.

I would like them do a Targa coupe later into production. A removable hard top with the coupe body and rear glass would be sweet.
