$23,750 off sticker would register as a earthquake on a new car

I feel like you work at the White House with this type of post, yes he got it $23k off, but we do all know that $5-10k of that came from Dodge, that's a '13 with the cash back. As posted, that's not really earth shattering considering we're half way thru 2014 and heading into the '15 model year very soon.

But let's take that example, so that's a '13 with a mix of discounts and it came in over $88k, you think the buyer would sell that same exact car to you in 100 days for $30k less than he paid? I don't mean to "sound" like a smart ass or anything, but that just makes no common sense. Prices in the 80's today is a far cry from $50s in 100 days from now. But why don't we all just lock this thread in a can, come October let's dig it up and see how close Wanted was, short time to wait to settle the debate.

Judging by the post above it's becoming distressingly apparent Mr. Wanted is not in full control of all his faculties so probably best to just drop it and revisit in a few months. See ya then.

figured from all the talk and post in a number of threads the resale value deserves its own thread.
this is only my opinion.

let me say i love the gen v viper and see a opportunity building to be able to get one at a price that's to good not to buy, THANK YOU DODGE MARKETING!



the base srt 2013 will be selling at 50k plus before oct 1, 2014 - it is what it is

the base gts 2013 & 2014 will also be selling at 50k by jan 1, 2015 - again it is what it is

MARKETING AND REVIEWS KILLED THE VALUE BEFORE ANYONE EVEN TOOK DELIVERY.

The only gen v that will hold any value will be the TA edition BUT that will also become a great buy at under 79k used

This gen v is tanking and we all see it, again it is what it is.

The talk is showing a gen 4 ACR is as good a buy as the most optioned gen v gts priced at 140k plus sticker , might i say used gen v below 69k!!!!!!

its a great time to get a great car at a UNREAL PRICE- again it is what it is!

I have not seen a Viper sell for less than 50% of it's base MSRP (that includes GenIs and GenIIs). Vipers seem to have a fairly firm floor for depreciation, mostly because there are not many of them and the basic hardware (good chassis, powerful engine, etc) ensures a minimum long-term value.

The Gen IIIs and IVs are still doing very well from a value standpoint and there is no compelling reason that a GenV will depreciate to a lower value than the prior generations since it is still less common and has better hardware than all the prior generations.

I do think that some of the early GenVs will fall into the 70s and 80s over the next 12 months, but the 50s would REALLY surprise me. A high mileage GenIV is still in the 60s.

The long-term for the GenV is pretty favorable. The GenV will certainly be a swan song of sorts. It will either be the last Viper or the last Viper with such a clear evolutionary relationship to prior Vipers. The next Viper (if we are so lucky) will need a new platform to be competitive and will probably not have an engine like the current one (thinks me). So the GenV is probably the last Viper to share so much of the last Viper's personality (that personality is probably not helping sales, if I'm honest).

But who knows, just don't plan your life around a $50K GenV by the fall...unless your a fan of disappointment.

............Gen V's that have been driven may only be worth 50k,
as my gen III is only worth 5 bucks.

When I find the 50k gen V, I will likely buy it......if it hasn't been wrecked too bad. :rolleyes:

One of the reasons for Gen V's discounted pricing right now is that the dealerships with inventory were given $5-10,000 in trunk money to move them quickly so they could move some of the slower sellers. They can blow out the door the ones that perhaps they had misjudged their allocation on, and re-order some of the newer production once the factory reopens.

This maintains the resale of the cars better than just reducing the sticker prices. Everybody wins. The dealer gets to move their stock off floor plan, the buyer gets a fantastic deal, the manufacturer gets rid of a glut on slow selling cars, and the factory can slot in some better selling (ACR, Vert, T/A,) or other fashionably accessorized and popular priced better sellers.

WANTED. I am know as a pretty fast shifter in my club. If you need some lessons on how to get a car down the dragstrip quickly, I'm your man. (Kidding of course, but you could phrase your comments in a little more polite manner). We are all on the same side here...glad you got a great deal on your new Viper.

WANTED, there is a reason why you got this deal. You did not buy a GTS you bought an SRT which is a LOT cheaper to start with. There is a lot of fluff in factory options, plus dealer discount and incentives supplied by the manufacturer. When you strip all off it on a one year old NEW car it becomes "like saving private ryan" . Lets roll up our sleeves and get it out of here. What i am saying is that you got a discount within the parameters of the sticker price and the fact that the dealer wants it off the floor. They probably made up a wash out deal on financing, unless you paid cash. Just in 1.5% add on financing they can make $2800 to $5000 depending on the amount financed.
Moving forward, great for you but this absolutely does not mean that the vipers are just depreciating like camries, come on now.

I can understand your frustration with this thread, you just had bad timing when you purchased your gen v. The gen v's price took a dive soon after you took delivery and if I were you I would be upset as well.

you are correct, not my car. wanted to show what he paid for it yesterday. say at the least his car depreciates 10% ( I think thats fair to assume ) his gen v is worth high 70's and its not even summer yet. that puts his car 20k away from being worth high 50's.

Ok now you are sounding down right silly, my friend. The market determines the price of anything. If he knew a guy who knew a guy and got it for $60k because the friend ate tens of thousands for him because he owed home one .. Would the car then be worth $40's? Um, know, it's worth what they are selling for. The lowest you can find gen5s for is in the mid $80s, and that's with a few thousand miles and they're early red cars, of which they made a lot, for vipers anyway, 150, with known first run issues. So how is his car now worth less than those cars? He has a far more rare color combo, no miles, and a later build. His car could resale for what he paid in the right market, he could dump it quickly for $84k, which would make it the cheapest gen5 price I've ever seen myself. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt but now you sound either uninformed or just debating silly numbers to occupy board space while we have nothing better to talk about. LoL

As for guys who bought in early and high, I'd say thank you, they are the ones keeping the viper alive and supporting SRT and us.

The only people that seem to care what the used cars are worth now are people who haven't and aren't going to buy Gen V's.

I don't get the fascination with the price when it doesn't impact you at all.

If one has the foresight to predict the future so well, I am unsure why you are dinking around on a Dodge Viper forum and not taking on McLaren life about the P1 you've ordered since you have mastered the markets.

Congrats, you weren't in the market to buy a Gen V last year at MSRP, you get a cookie.

This is the new excuse for the car "not going to buy one now cause not sure what it will be worth in a year!"

And I thought we exhausted all the excuses.

With the trunk money on the car, most of the depreciation is being absorbed by the dealership and Chrysler. This is a great opportunity for buyers to pick up a heavily discounted car that will most probably not see much new car depreciation for several years.

When Dodge did this before, the people that snatched up the cars got great deals, but the resale prices did not suffer. Many of them were able to sell their cars a few years later for as much or more than they had paid for them. Got to drive a Viper for a couple years for free!

Who cares what these toys cost and what they resale for. I have spent millions on them over my life and loose my ass every time I sell one and buy one. I just do the best I can do when I buy and sell. Enjoy your toys. "It is what it is" - an overused expression but meant to describe reality in a nutshell. You're having a little trouble with that. Just because there was an exception doesn't make it the rule as many here are trying to point out. You are still speculating which is different from "it is what it is".

Buying at a "steal" can be a short-lived victory. The dealer and manufacturer won't be supporting that car soon if it dies in the market. They should be rewarded, not punished, for putting out a great product although a little overpriced IMHO. (just a ittle - nowhere near the ridiculousness you're trying to perpetuate)

Don't resent getting attacked - you earned it with your gloating about an unfortunate situation that you're trying to make more unfortunate with your chicken little crap.

This will be the case, and what the OP isn't accounting for.

I would expect any lightly optioned SRT and GTS, and the TA, to experience much less than the average depreciation for a new car. Once the older inventory makes its way through the system the deep discounting will end, new car prices will stabilize at closer to MSRP, and used cars will be valued against those higher new car prices...not the heavily discounted prices that some dealers are bailing out of some cars in the short term. A used Viper buyer will generally have extremely few cars to choose from, and over the next two year he will more likely be considering a used SRT at closer to $75-80k vs new at $100-110k, a used GTS at $85-90k vs a more luxury featured model at $120-125k, and a used TA for $90-95k minimum.

I think demand and values will also get a boost once the C7 Z06 comes out. So much hype and frenzy around the new version that will fizzle out fast, many are sure to be disappointed with its execution, and that's when actual buyers with $100+k in their jeans will make the sober decision as to whether they want the 30,001 C7 built that year, or the other top rung American performance icon. Those that choose the unique driving experience, beauty and exclusivity of the Viper will find both those new and resale prices to represent excellent value for the collectible exotic.

And the other thing I predict is that those that have neither the desire, intention or ability to purchase a Viper at market value will continue to criticise the car in a variety of ways to justify their reality.

Interesting ideas in this thread.

Of course, nearly all cars experience depreciation--no surprise there with the Gen V. However, I would say that the sky is far from falling. I have been considering a 2014 Gen V GTS from some time and prices are good not "fire sale" good. The 2013 Gen V prices are thus far only better by the amount of cash from Dodge to the dealers--not unusual with a soon-to-be 2 year old car. This dealer cash-back has not yet shown up for 2014 cars. While discounted new cars are bound to affect the resale market for Gen Vs, anyone who sells an expensive sportscar they just purchased must expect to absorb some loss.

I'm so upset, that I added a Corsa catback to the car today. I also am so upset, that I've put nearly 16K miles on the car in a year, enjoying it. While keyboard commandos like yourself only dream about driving one. Boo hoo! I'm sooooooo upset.

Losing $20K in a year isn't going to break me. Count on it. I might buy another one, just for the hell of it?

Admirable.....alas my work commute is over before the engine reaches its normal running temp. Still I got to drive it 6 days in a row, until a heavy storm forecast forced me into the SUV this week. It's an exciting experience even at the 55 speed limit that takes me to work. So to me, this viper has an added value, because of its far greater ease of use.

I disagree with you Wanted. But out of curiosity what do you think GEN 4s, 3s, 2s and 1s will sell for if Gen 5s are going to be had for 50k?
