Glen,

I just had the same problem on my '94 and had the bushings replaced. There are 4 of them and they cost about $3.00 apiece. The Viper tech indicated that the labor was "actual time". Anyway, the whole job cost me about $80 and it's as good as new. Go with the repair. It's got to be more cost effective.

The problem is so simple to understand once you can visualize it. The engineers appeared to have goofed because the most frequently used pedal is located on the end of the shaft, having support from only one side. The brake pedal is in the center of the bracket and has support from both ends of the shaft.

I was going to become an engineer at one point in time, but I figured if you've seen one train, you've seen them all!!!

Good luck.....

The engineers did the right thing. While the clutch is used more, the brake pedal needs much more support. The pressures applied to it, especially in a panic stop, are far more than will ever be applied to the clutch.

Paul,

I still maintain the engineers goofed. Why didn't they provide adequate support for both pedals? I agree that the brake absorbs more pressure, but the pure number of repetitions on the clutch should indicate that it needs more support. If that weren't the case, why have Glen's and my bushings failed?

It's interesting too that there is a angular component to application of pressure on the clutch, since its position is considerably left of midline. I found that if I placed my foot on the lateral (left) aspect of the pedal, I could stop the noise by offsetting that lateral force component.

I'm presently awaiting a call from DC's engineering department requesting that I design a new and improved brake/clutch pedal assembly unit.........

Hey Don, I think it would be fantastic if the clutch and brake pedals were even like for the Gen II. So when you design the new assembly try to keep that in mind also.
