I’ve got something rattling behind my center instrument stack, and I thought I could just remove the bezel and then that center panel and find the problem. But looking thought the service manual, it looks like the whole dash board needs to be removed and the power cut off for the airbag.

This is starting to sound like work. Is there an easier way or should I just keep the radio turned up?

Oddly enough I have a bad rattle in my dash but only in 6th gear. I know it makes no sense but it is true. I took the center console off and the radio out but there is no way to get at anything from that vantage point.

I am going to have Chuck take a look next week.

Andrew. the rattle might be the center defogger duct as there was a TSB on how to fix it. Here are the instructions on how to fix it. I also emailed you with the pictures on how to do this fix.

2. Remove the defroster duct mounting screws (2) and defroster duct (Fig. 1).

3. Using snips/cutters, remove upstanding flange around entire outlet side of duct (Fig. 1).

4. Remove any loose debris from the defroster duct area.

5. Reinstall duct with two screws, tighten the screws to 1.6 - 2.2 Nm (14 - 20 in. lbs.).

6. Reinstall defroster grille making sure it is secure around entire outside edge.

Cool, I just did the
"DIAGNOSIS:

And it rattles like crazy. Not sure it's my rattle but I'll fix it and find out.

I fixed that rattle in mine last week. The vent grill pops off...very easy. Then I adjusted the ducting and the rattle is gone. The little grill was actually harder to put back in than it was to remove.

I have the rattle, trimmed and even drove with out the duct and after some time it comes back, there is something else under there with a mind of its own.
I belive there's two different rattles.

"Maybe you dont have the viper, and infact you have the limited edition rattle snake edition." You have to tell that to the service tech and just sit back and watch his expression.
