Running from the police is SO not cool!

I just watched the movie and I was wondering if you had any "friends" that had a similar experience. Maybe you could share their story with us.

A guy I know decided it would be a good idea to try and run from the cops.

He got lucky and only got 14 days in jail and the felony was reduced to a misdemeanor. This ended up costing him thousands in lost pay and attorney fees. Not to mention the fact that he can't drive anything for a year. I don't even want to imagine what his insurance rates will be.

I had a ahem.. 'friend' in college with a white f-body who was dating two girls at the same time and they both new about each other. He had plans with one of them on a nice sunny afternoon, but before he left for her house, the other one made a surprise visit to his house before he left. Well she decided to 'follow' him over to the other girls house. When he got on the highway, he got on it a little bit to lose his tail and then saw the flashing lights in the rear-view mirror. Instead of pulling over like a good boy, he dropped it down a few gears and proceeded to run it up to 140 or so and change a few highways. Meanwhile, not seeing the cop, the girlfriend decides to chase him. She has the 85mph speedo needle buried on her 6 cylinder Calais trying to catch him. The cop is now behind her, but flew by her going for the bigger target. The cop had no idea where the shiny white car had gone. The driver made it safely to his destination, but years later ended up marrying the girl in the Calais. This story took place about 15 years ago. If it were done today, there would have been helicopters, news crews, etc. all over the place looking for/filming the bandit. However, justice was later served when one night this same couple at the time were both given tickets for speeding. They were each handed a ticket for 100mph in a 55mph zone.

i suggest you get a bike (and not get scared and know how to ride it), or your not gonna get away.

Hmmm... let's see...
One friend had a "wired" 1977 f-body with 350hp. One switch killed all the rear lights, including break lights. I only know of one time it was actually used, and at 140, streetlights look like a picket fence. The police did a door-by-door search for the car, as it just "disappeared" like a rocket into a part of town with no exit. They finally found it in a driveway with two other f-bodies, all with warm engines, and all dark colored (it was at night obviously). We all had clean records, so we got the "next time we see any of you car go 1 mph over..." speech. - lucky bunch of idiots we were back then -

And...
- Dirtbikes can go places police cars can't (if you're in the right part of town). :smirk:
- The police radio only works if they can tell people which way the guy's going.
- Growing up and changing driving habbits, removes the need (ViperDays! and other track events). :2tu:
- The realization that one mistake can be death, which is a whole lot worse than being caught.

The crazy things "boys" do... it's a wonder we make it to old age.

Much better chance on a Bike, but it's tough to outrun Motorola! :p So you better ditch the cop fast or there will be 5 of them blocking the road in ahead of you! (just ask my Brother! )
He actually faired better when he ran in "MY" modded 5.0 years back when he lost the cop, but hit a house a minute later at 3am!

0-2, running for cops is Stupid and dangerous! And you aren't getting away unless you are LUCKY or they let you go!

Whether or not you can get away is not entirely up to the cop; if the circumstances are right, it's fairly easy to do & no one is put in danger. It's more of losing the fuzz not actually running from them & being wreckless. Traffic conditions, terrain, familiarity with the area all come into play.

And the old saying can't outrun a radio is baloney; I've done it. If they can't see you make your first & second turn, what are they gonna say on their radio?

I'd add that it's much easier to do in a common car than in a Viper. Speed isn't everything.

My evil twin brother has about 6 succesful runs so far. On a Yamaha R1.
He only speeds in safe conditions, so the cop encounters usually take place in the middle of nowhere.

The story is always the same : bike is at +/- 150 mph, cop comes from the front or is hiding along the road.
By the moment the cop pulls around or hits the road, bike is already 1km further down the road.
Visual contact is lost. Bike ignores first intersection and the natural tendency to go right (this is part of police academy drill). Bike makes it to the second intersection and then takes a LEFT.
Bike hits it hard for another couple of miles. Looks for a forest. Put the bike down and enjoy nature for a while.
Smile...you've just ruined a cop's day :)

Of course I do not agree with my brother's weird behavior, but he tells me its an adrenaline rush.

Ha, this brings back several memories from friend of the past. Of course, I wouldn't hang around people like this anymore..

As the first story goes, I recall a 68 convertible Vette heading to a small suburb of St. Louis. On a 4 land HWY, the vette was going about 130 7pm or so. Coming the other way, of course, the law. Rollers go on and the vette goes into 3rd gear. Once the "occupants" of the vette reached the party in this small town, of course, the law busted the party. "Well, what do we have here, a convertible vette...hmmm", was overheard from Johnny Law. 'nuff said.

I've got another memory of a turbo RX7 outrunning 14 patrol cars and 1 helicopter through 4 cities. However, that one requires about a 45 min and several beers to tell properly... At least that's what I read in the police report.

I obviously hung around the "wrong" crowd.

You guys should ask Rob Feretti about his stories. He always has a bunch of them. He says "By the time I pass the cop he has to pull out and I am already going to fast for him to catch up." LOL! He released a DVD and it shows him blowing by a cop on purpose with no license plates. He then pulls over and then as soon as the cop gets up to the car he drives off. It was pretty funny to see the first time I saw it. I was speechless.

In high school I was driving home from a friends house in a bad mood. Had a '69 Mustang Fastback with a 351 4bbl and 4 speed. As I pulled out from a side street onto a 4 lane divided road I had left my high beams on. A car on the opposite road flashed me and, being in a bad mood I swerved toward him with my lights right at him (road divided with concrete curb). It was then that I realized it was a cop! He hit his lights on but had to travel a hundred yards before he could make a u-turn. I just floored it and made a quick few turns till I got to a friends house and parked the car. We waited a few hours and finally headed home the back way at about 2 am. As I was slowly creeping home I approached a cop in the opposite lane. As he passed he immediately made a U-turn and pulled me over!!! Sitting in my car I thought I was dead but quickly found out that it was just a typical harassment pull-over and he was not the same officer or at least didn't recognize my car!

I don't seem to be as lucky these days!

Had a turbo porsche several years back on I40 with wife heading to Chapel Hill when radar went nuts as i came over a hill.Saw trooper in other direction go by and hit brakes to come across median after me.Floored it and exited and hid behind a church for a while...wife was pizzed.I laughed and was sayin "eat ---- pig "and stuff like that just to further fuel wifes ire.Great story to tell but probably very dumb...wifes really mad hiding behind church...oh well good times...been pulled twice in vipers since...warning tickets...in a viper ...wow!

Have done it several times in my pu truck and suv before that.Works better at night. If there is no taffic, might as well just pull over. When you know you have been radared and there is traffic comming behind you.You nail it to firewall.Turn off lights.Cop is held up before he can come out after you.Put some distance between you and him but get off at the first exit.Hopefuly the terrain is hilly or rolling. He can't see you getting off and you see him race by while you are parked under the overpass waiting for him like a good citizen waiting to take their medicine.Or you doubble back or take the nearest turns you can on a long and circutious route. If you're out there by yourself. No traffic, can't break the line of site and get off, then just pull over and congratulate him.
