Immediate...Do the tubes and filters. Sean Roe's after shut off fan is also a good "entry" mod. You might want to also do HF cats. The next level of mods will get expensive and you might want to play with the car for a while before you move on...(you may find that you've already got your hands full).

Squeaking brakes are typical. They should get better after some use (since they're likely dirty/dusty). Air deflectors will also help a little. A lot of owners go to ebc green pads to cut down on the noise and dust. I don't like the compromise on pad longevity and the slight reduction in stopping ability. Again, get used to them and then decide on your own. Tires are expensive so make sure they're flatted before you replace them.

Do yourself a HUGE favor and make a call to Chuck Tator 914 763.3136. In 15 minutes of conversation you'll get the entire (and honest) lowdown on what you can expect. He'll also be your tech if you know what's good for you

Jesse, thanks for the absolutely great post. Who is Chuck Taylor, and where is he from? I need a tech as well too!

Hi Vin:

Not to worry...we ALL know the feeling of buying a Viper!

Anyway, $46,000 is a great number for the car you described... obviously depending on all other things being in good shape. You should take a look in the classified section of this board to get a better idea of prices. Assume that all VCA members cars are in excellent shape (unless otherwise noted).

Now for the fun part

Jesse is my daughter's name, most anyone here calls me city.
Chuck Taylor was a basketball player in the 60's (I believe). Chuck Tator is arguably the best Viper Dealer and Tech in our region. He's in South Salem, NY which is a 50 mile drive from us, up the Hutch and 684 (under an hour with no traffic). Trust me when I tell you that you you will want him to be your dealer and tech. He's the man!

Let me know if you need any other info. Don't know what you've been driving, but your Viper will be a handful for a while...so take your time (translation: be humble/careful) and be safe. Make sure you're pointed straight when you play with the fun pedal.

Vinnie,

If the car is what you say it is, then 46K is a good deal!! Relax and enjoy it! You mentioned that the factory options included polished wheels (do you mean chromed?) I believe that all 98's came with polished wheels.

Start with tubes and filters like other have suggested. I, too, have the Borla cat-back and really like it. Spend some time with the car before starting your mods!....Kurt

Vinnie,

I too think that the number is very good for a well taken care car as you described. Take advanatge of the current pricing.

Have fun.

Vinnie, if you really want to get the most out of your new Viper, go to a driving school. Nothing unleashes the power of your Viper better than a skilled driver. Enjoy and be safe.

Price sounds good if car is in as good of shape as you said. As for problems I don't think anyone here as noticed any between the flashing boobs, unending questions, or the parking lot mobs.

On problem consistant with all Vipers is the upper cheek pain. Sorry its chronic and the only cure is to sell the car.
