Thats not to bad when you consider the tax savings. $45000 on trade in is pretty good. The only problem would be if you owe more than 45k on the Z06..

Sell the car yourself. The dealer usually never gives you as much as a private seller. Try to sell it on ebay, autotrader and anyplace else you can find. GOOD LUCK!

Be carful of the advice from some people on this board. If you sell it out right you would have to get around $48,000 to make up for the tax deduction on the trade. I can guarantee you will not get anywhere near that on the open market.

Make sure you check the price of the Viper too. They may give you a good trade but sock it to you on the Viper.

The tax savings is a factor so crunch the #'s and see where you come out. It may be a wash either way and trading the car in is less of a hassle. Good point.

99% of the time it is not possible to get a good deal on a trade and a good deal on a new car. It is a primary function of a car lot or dealership to make money on used and new cars. You can't have it both ways. I have never traded a vehicle in...always sold them myself. A little hassle, but worth it to me. As for the tax implications..Michigan taxes the agreed upon selling price of the vehicle before trade allowance...not fair, but that's the law here. In states where you can deduct the trade from the selling price to arrive at the taxable amount, you would definitely need to consider the above advice

Dealers here in FL know they are saving you tax on trade-in so they just deduct most of the savings from their offer.

Or, they just trot out the auction report showing your vehicle at rock bottom for any given mileage/condition and say "Why would I give you more for yours than for one I could buy at auction, cleaned up, and on 30 day terms"

Convenience and financing is what they have to offer, at an expected and sometimes deserved profit.
