The good news is that we are walking and talking and typing.
I was coming out of tight turn, just getting a bit hard into the throttle when I saw a deer, passenger side shoulder, I swerved, but could not get out of the throttle soon enough, we spun, hit the berm(thank you Cal Trans.!)

spun again, came up on the berm, I mean within inches, going over this berm down to...

The bad and very sad news is my beloved snake took a nasty hit to the chin

and a lesser blow to the passenger side.

We started to sort it out today but need to get her to body shop with frame machine etc to really know whats up. I am so bummed, yet at the same time, so thankful. Very weird, almost surrreal mix of emotions. So my Viper brethren, as we all know, we're just a wee bit of throttle and a couple of seconds from great excitement or great pain. And today, though in some physical pain, and lots of emotional anguish, I am so very thankful to be sitting here to post this very strong reminder. Keep the rubber on the road. John

I guess the best way to look at it is that it could have been a LOT worse. That's a heck of a drop-off.

Glad you're ok, John.

Everytime I have a close one, I'm really sobered up for at least a week. :)

**** that's a serious cliff. I can relate to the feelings about the damage to the viper but compared to what should be the overwhelming feeling that if it were not for that mound of dirt you would be dead, no contest. Get the car fixed or get another.

Holy crap! A car is a machine and can be replaced. If not for the berm you'd have been killed. F the car at least you're ok.

Glad to hear you're allright!!!!!!!!!!
Alot of people make that mistake with a deer, try to miss it and do alot more damage than if they would have "glanced off" the deer. In your case, alot more damage would've been really bad!!!! Wasn't your time yet,,,,,,,, Rock on!!!! :headbang:

Glad to see that you made it unharmed. The car......push for a total and get another. BTW I'll take that oil drinking Roe Supercharger off your hands if you want to let it go cheap ;) . Really glad to see that you are OK.

Yep! There would have been no survival if you jumped that berm. Don't worry about the vipe.(that's what insurance is for.) :)
Thank your lucky stars that you're OK and go buy a lottery ticket.
You definitely have something to be thankfull for this thursday.

John,

Super glad you're okay! You are oh so right, it's a fine line between shear fun, and shear pain or worse! I know, been there done that.

Weird thing is I just started seeing your car in posts about wheels and I thought how cool that black car is with those wheels. I'm sure it will look the same soon!

At least your able to talk about it and still see and be with those in your life that matter most!

Peace!

Ironic. But I just had a similar situation on Sunday. Coming out of a right-hander and apparantly got on it too hard. Anyway, ended up facing the other direction in a corn field. Luckily it wasn't much of a drop off the road. It was however enough to do similar damage to the front bumper of my car. Fortunately we didn't hit anything. The damage was caused when the car slid off the road and the bumper hit the ground first. I was able to drive out of the field and get the car home. We weren't far from home. Haven't got the damage totally assesed yet, but the bumper is shot, broke the oil cooler or just snapped a line. I lost all the oil. I still had pressure when I pulled in the garage. I don't think the radiator is damaged. Luckily my wife and I were also uninjured. I just posted a topic about getting a new bumper from anywhere other than a Dodge dealer. Sticker shock. $11,300 just for the bumper. I called two different dealers just to be sure. If you know of any info about that bumper that I don't, please let me know. Feel free to e-mail me personally. Glad to hear you made it through okay also. Take care.

Damn John, I'm glad to hear you came out of it unscathed. You can always replace cars/parts. I guess I'll have to postpone a trip down the coast till you get your car back on the road.

John,
I'm glad you weren't hurt. I'm sure you'll be back on the road in no time. I don't know if I could keep my eyes on the road with all of that beautiful scenery.

I can't help but think of how lucky you were! And imagine what the story and pictures would have been like if you did make it over the berm!
Sorry about your Viper, keep us informed as to what the insurance does for you.

Wow....
All that kept you from going over the edge was hitting about a foot tall pile of dirt?!
I've had a few close calls where I said to myself "this is going to hurt", but made it through ok. I think you've just about taken that as far as it can go.
Glad you're here to tell us about it.

Regards,
Sean

John,
So glad you are OK. The snake doesn't look too bad at all and a competent body shop will be able to fix it up in no time. The cars are amazingly resilient and strong. One good thing about driving a car with a full frame and tacked on body panels is that it's relatively easy to fix.

Be careful out there!

John

Just like all of the other Viper friends I am very glad you are ok! I experienced the same sort of mental and physical pain with my first Viper so I know how you feel. Take some time to relax and try not to worry about the car too much, spend time with your family and realize how lucky you are.

Take Care John

P.S. here is a pic of my last Viper (hit in the middle of an intersection by a GMC Envoy Ouch!)
