Nah, just messin' with you guys. I'm a bike guy, but recently came into a nice sum of money, and am looking to buy a Viper. I've seen all these vids of bikes vs. cars, and the only conclusion I feel I can make is that all these vehicles are incredibly bad ass, and for a car to compete with a bike makes it very impressive indeed. And those rare specimens that beat on these super bikes are rediculous - just so cool.

So, my question is thus, what should I be looking for when buying a used Viper? What are common problems that I should be aware of? What are the usual upgrades? Clearly I'm a novice to the car, but you gotta start somewhere. I'm looking for something '98 or newer. Thanks for all your help in advance.

Grizz

PS: My bikes have included turbo hayabusas and the one and only 260 hp + 100 shot of NOS supercharged GSXR 1K.

I guess the big question is what do you want to spend (ballpark)? Total amount on car and mods. That will determine MANY things, nitrous, S/C, TT, etc... Figure 47K - 60K for a nice GTS, depending on color and year.

Where are you located?
If you plan on modding immediately, then year might make a Differnce to you. 96-99 forged internals, 2000+ cast, 2001+ ABS.

Usual upgrades are headers, exhaust, tubes/filters. Many cosmetic upgrades are normal too, of course.

If you do plan on getting some serious POWER in the future, HD halfshafts, safetly loops, brakes, etc. Will be nice to get included also.

I am a bike dude as well (ZX12R) and the Viper is my first car. Why?, this is the only car that reproduces closely the "Bike velocity". Good choice . And mine is stock... :p :2tu:

Depending on where you are there might be a VCA member close by. You should definately have someone with some experience look for you if at all possible. Taking a car that passes initial inspection to a Viper tech is also a great idea *IF* you are lucky enough to have one local to you.

I had an 2002 Aprilia Mille which I loved. The bike sounded tremendous and got loads of attention...

NEVER have I had so many people taking pics (digital cams/phones), giving me thumbs up and begging for rides...

As they do with the Viper.

I'm a bike guy too, that its, when I'm not driving the Viper!

I made the stupid mistake of buying a lumbering cruiser, a Road Star. Then I found out I coulda had a Hayabusa, man, what a dumb move that was. It would have helped if I studied the market before jumping back in with my impulsive purchase.

To all considering buying anything- DONT RUSH, its not going anywhere, take your time and figure out whats best for you.

This has been a Public Service Announcement

carry on..

The Gen IIs are the ones you'll want to buy, if you can. The Gen II started in 1996 for the coupe (GTS), and in 1997 for the converitble (RT/10).
