So the a-holes in my neighborhood association decided to put in 9 speed bumps within 1 mile of road! Immediately upon hearing this I freaked out, worrying that my 96' GTS would scrap it's nose. They assured me that the bumps would only be 3" in height and plenty long so it won't be a problem. They installed them yesterday...

Today someone must have ******* further, as they were doubled in height to 6 inches. You need to go 10-15mph over them in a 25mph road!

Currently, my baby is being rebuilt by Tator so I can't test it. I'm worried that I can't even get it home now. Each bump is about 12-15' long.

So what do you guys think? Will I clear?

All I could find online for clearance measurements was for the GTS-R: special Dodge Vipers - Viper GT2 and ACR

Good to hear...I'm still stock when it comes to suspension.

You're able to go over speed humps and bumps (humps being the really wide ones)?

I have Eibachs and they allow me 2.5" of ground clearance (under my chin spoiler). I also seldom have any problem with speedbumps. Sometimes the gutter/driveway of dumb parkinglots do cuase me serious scaping.

I have been having a problem lately scraping, I have shocks/springs too, but I also think I need a ride/height adjustment.

If you go slow and at an angle, you will be fine.

I have aluminum skid rails I attached to the car's frame. My GTS is slammed, so bumps KILL me. But with the skids, I just slow enough to make contact, then proceed and ramp off like I'm skiing. It sounds nasty, but that's just the aluminum doing it's job.

I can sympathize via my old neighborhood. Speed bumps don't slow folks down, at least here where everyone drives a pickup truck or SUV. Treat it like slalom course, since you will attack each bump at an angle. Alternate the angles for each bump. See if you can improve your times every instance of coming home.

i'm thinkin' 6 in bumps will be a problem

i scraped (i think it was the oil drain plug) in costco's parking lot

......

just went out and measured, stock ride height '02 rt, front air dam under chin 4 in, lowest point of sill 4.5 in, most of sill 5 in

those bumps don't sound dot compliant (or whatever the standard)

good thing your car is away, watch for scrape marks on the bumps then be the squeaky wheel

Get the speed bumps removed. My neighborhood put them in, the residents complained and half of them have been removed. Still got a few more to get rid of.

In a time of critical economics and a world going "green" speed bumps are the devil. Think of how much gas is used and brake dust created by a few thousand trips a day over speed bumps in one single neighborhood.

If they are gonna take a nice, smooth road and clutter it with speed bumps they might as well leave the potholes too.

Repeated application of common 87 octane makes speed bumps go away. The potholes created aren't ideal but they're not 6 inches deep as the bumps were tall.....

Ground clerance is 5 in. from the chin spoiler to the pavement so be careful. Attack them at an angle a mentioned above.

If they truly are 6" I think they just locked you out of your neighborhood. :nono:

When we were looking to buy our house we ruled out a few different neighborhoods due to those bumps so IMHO they even hurt your homes resale or limit your audience.

A 6" speedbump; my car wouldn't clear it (stock ACR)
The front would scrape (couldn't get a good angle over a speed bump), then it would high center.

Time to complain to the association.

6" is way to high to cross . Possible at a 45 deg angle and just nudging it over. I think I would park in front of one and call the town . Make them lay down boards at everyone so you can get in and out twice a day. Just park it there until they come but keep an eye on it. or carefully go straight over. high ceneter yourself and make them carefuly get you off and of course they must pay the bill for extraction, scrapes, time lost etc. GTS Bruce

You are a clever man.

same here 1" lower with Eibachs, 2.5" at the bottom of the airdam and i only slightly scrape the bigger speedbumps. No prob because it never scrapes the actual chin of the facia.

You should be fine at stock ride hight.

Each bump is about 12-15' long.

I just mocked up your dimensions up by holding a foot long ruler with another one perpendicular in the center. At 6" high it would feel like you were jumping over a curb in a parkinglot.:omg:
Your estimate might be off. I assume they are realy not as tall as you think and/or more like 18-24" long.

...I hope:)

Did you raise your ride? I'm just shy of 3" clearance from the lowest point on the bumper. I have a Roe that adds a bit of weight up front but that's it.

If they install anything that doesn't comply with DOT specs, you should try to force them to remove them or pay for the damage to your car. A letter stating that the bumps they've installed are damaging the suspension of your car, and subsequently forcing you to make repairs to maintain your car in safe operating condition, should get them thinking twice about them. It's cheaper to remove the bumps than to be liable for damages.
