GTS Transmission

Looking for direction on getting transmission work done on a '98 GTS with 11,000 miles.
1. Rebuild? or
2. Replace?
3. Upgrade?
4. Suggested shops in Northern IN, Chicago or SW Michigan to take it to to get the job done.

Try to get a rebuilt 03 SRT10 Tremec.

If you really want something special that doesn't break the bank, may I suggest an upgraded T-56 with revised 5th and 6th gears. The difference in response and cruising is NIGHT AND DAY and you don't anything in the lower gears! I have it on my LETHAL 750 and the difference was amazing.

Here's something to think about:
5th gear is now equivalent to using a 3.31 rear end...
6th gear is now equivalent to using a 3.85 rear end...
My car pulls hard in 6th on the freeway starting as low as 65mph....

Get it rebuilt and upgraded. It's a common tranny: T-56.

Having done mine, it's not hard to do, nor are the parts that uncommon. There are GM versions with different gear ratios, which it sounds like LTHL VPR has found a way to incorporate or do something similar. Interesting way to describe the effect of changing 5th and 6th gear. Another way would be to roughly say that 5th becomes the high gear and you get one that is in between 4th and 5th.

Viper : 2.66, 1.78, 1.3, 1.00, 0.74, 0.50 and some GM versions have 0.80 and 0.62 for 5th and 6th.
