Man I miss my B/W! Saying that if the brakes are upgraded on the GTS it is very close to the SRT. SRT is better but saying that the GTS is way cool.:headbang:

Well I wasn't talking about comparing esthetic matter between the gen 2 and gen 3.:nono:
I was asking about driving experience, confort, pleasure and comparaison between the GTS and the new coupe.:D
For those who could experienced both cars, what's your comments, which one is your favourite drive?:drive:[/quote

Hands down my Coupe is better than my '99 ACR.

I am probably one of the better sources of information for answering this question, if I may be so bold. I own both an '06 SRT Coupe and a low mileage GTS Coupe. Both cars are terrific, yet different from one another. Believe it or not, some things about the GTS are better. Visibility, particularly rearward, is better. Interior heat is less in the GTS. Brakes are significantly stronger on the SRT but if you are not road racing, the GTS brakes are more than strong enough. It is not an issue on a street driven car, at all. The interior on the SRT looks nicer and in its own way, feels better than any car I have driven. It fits snug, like a glove. The GTS interior has a less than beautiful dash but the interior is very comfortable. The GTS has less supportive seats than the SRT but on the other hand, it's a bit roomier. With the '08 Viper PS2's on the GTS, it handles superbly. Steering is extremely precise and doesn't give away anything to the newer model. Both cars feel like high quality cars when you drive them. Both are beautiful to me. The GTS is a very special car and the last one was already made. Not taking anything away from the SRT but it was the first Viper to get beaten by a corvette and this fact has hurt its image.

Well stated. I would also like to add you have excellent taste in colors as both cars are one of the best color combo's for its generation. :2tu:

There is no comparison when a person like one car compared to another....and the comment about the "kids" liking the Mustang more than the Viper is totally bogus in the overall scheme of things. The latest show that I was at was about ALL age brackets, and they DID like the SRT-10 over the GTS....and the Judging was done by CAR guys....not a bunch of kids......again......it's in the eye of the beholder....NOW I'll drop it!

Yikes, I guess I will put my .02 cents in on this issue. I have been fortunate to have had all three generations of Vipers. Each generation has it's pros and cons. The GTS will always be the classic viper. However, the current generation car is overall a better car from a technology standpoint and in my personal opinion drives better and definitily stops better. The 2008 is coming and from what I see so far, it will be an even better car. I can't wait because of the colors and horsepower improvements, the car should be be killer. If the Mopar aftermarket will push the horsepower for a N/A car to 675 who would not want one.

Re-read my post before doing a bad job of quoting me next time.

I said that I was asking kids that walked by their opinion. Not judges.

And the overall scheme of things that day was that kids liked the blingy Mustang.

The only thing bogus here is your ability to read.

Dave, what he was saying is that your little juvenile poll is hardly indicative of the general consensus. A Mustang is hardly even a car compared to a Viper. Hell, a wrecked Viper looks better than a Mustang. Lets be real.

Rareguitar, your VOI9 is a beauty. Underground Racing recently put a twin turbo in a car like yours. It's beautiful beyond belief, with blue anodized pieces in the engine bay, polished intake, etc. I'll post a pic up when I get back to my other house (they are on the computer at that house). The Ferrari is a nice car but in my opinion, not even close to the beauty of your Viper. I think the SRT is just as beautiful as the GTS, just different. I'm lucky to have both.

Reality check - Teenagers are future car owners.

Reality check #2 - Our society has become obsessed with bling. The GTS is bling-less.

Reality check #3 - I'd take that guy's red Rousch Stage II over my wrecked GTS any day.

reality check#1 - You forgot to mention that the teenagers you interviewed, were from a mental institution and their vision was impaired by medications (I've never seen a single teenager, 80 year old, child or even a dog say that a Mustang looks better than a Viper).

reality check #2 - the majority of people who do not own Vipers hate them, simply because they cannot afford them.

Reality check #3 - You are on the wrong forum, Mustang man.

The teeny boppers didn't hate my GTS, they just liked the flash of the 'Stang better. We're talking giggling 13 year olds here. They haven't developed automotive hate yet. But they do like fashion. Bling = fashion!

Oh yeah... Your toilets will begin to uncontrollably overflow now.

I can do that.

*** are you talking about? Toilets? What exactly do you mean by "bling"? Forgive me, but I have very little tolerance for corny ghetto slang. Does a shiny box have "bling"?

This post is supposed to compare SRT's to GTS'. Please don't bring a peasant vehicle like a Mustang into the debate.

Transfer this thread to viper alley

Naw.... this is still to civil for the alley.

Back to topic though, GEN 1/2/3 and now 4 are all awesome and different in there own way. There isnt any one person that wouldnt take one if given to them and KEEP it. The mustang, well if someone gave me one, Id put it on Ebay.
I have had alot of cars. The VIPER is by far the most fun to drive and has recieved the most looks of any vehicle Ive owned. I love Lambo's and ferraris and they definately turn heads, but in my area there are 10 times more exotics like those then Vipers. So everytime Im out in Viper, I have kids yelling, wives/grlfriends staring:D and people taking cell phone pictures.

This whole thread is about personal choice, which I guess none of should attack or persuade. Its what makes life fun and us all different. Otherwise we might all be driving red mustangs and never know any different. So my choice is usually whats new, I love performance and technology and that changes every year. So I'll usually side with the newer model. Some like whats classy and a legend and that may be the Gen 2 for them. So you cant go wrong with any Viper, I just choose the SRT for the newest refinements.

OK, putting the 08 Gen 3.5 aside. What is all of this new technology the Gen III has over the Gen II? I am sure there are some minor changes and improvements in the computer or brakes but I cannot think of anything earth shattering. :dunno: I thought the Viper was all about being back to basics, no traction control or cruise control etc.

Now the new cam in cam technology on the 08's is pretty neat allowing you to have a real aggressive cam but yet a smooth idle.

Had to drop in my .02 cents also...

I had the 97 b/w supercharged, full belanger, HRE 19's etc.... It got looks and flashes everywhere!! It sounded meaner than any car on the street!! I raced on many occasions and can say that I am damn good.... but lets face it... The technology is over 10 years old!! I sold it when I almost died on the freeway because the brakes didn't do their job!!

Bought the 06 b/w coupe that has corsa, and put on motons... I lost 130 hp to the wheels. I get the SAME attention (which I ignore most of the time anyways...unless they are SUPER hot!!) and have NEVER looked back! The new coupes are just stunning to look at with the curves and lines!!

If you took both my cars side by side.... had nothing invested in either... drove them both.... you would pick the 06 hands down!!

Guess you shoulda upgraded the brakes, like many do. Especially when you are putting that much power down. Seems like a no brainer.

I too own a GTS and an SRTC. I like them both.

Random thoughts include:

Stock vs Stock they are a bit different to drive but they both get looks.

You can mod the GTS's brakes easy enough to equal the SRT, just put a set of SRT brakes on it like I did. Ask Mike (redandtanrt) how my GTS stops.

You can also make a bunch of power with both cars.

You can improve the suspension on the GTS as well so that both cars handle about the same.

The GTS does tend to run warmer on hot days than the SRTC, but that can be remedied as well.

As you can tell from my comments, the SRTC is an improved version of the GTS, albeit without some of the SRTC's issues. The diff in the GTS is pretty bullet proof - can't say that about the SRTC.

The computer in the GTS seems to work much better than the one in the SRTC - my GTS's engine never lays over in hot weather like my SRTC did.

They are both fun cars to drive and own.

The GTS is and always will be King! The only Ferrari that looks better than a GTS is an Enzo.

Tricks are for kids.

GTS dated? If you believe that, you haven't lived long enough.

Full Stop.

I think the SRT looks dated. The automakers have a 8-10 year revolving design cue, angular to curve. Similar to bell bottoms, they'll all be back.

GTS looks are timeless. There are certain car designs that will live on forever and the GTS is certainly one of them. Some others are the Ford GT, AC Cobra, Daytona etc...

Maybe the SRTC will join this list, too soon to tell right now.

Interesting debate. I asked my wife (we are both in our 40's) what we should do if we won the last Viper raffle 2008 SRT. She simply stated "sell it". I asked which one? THe GTS or the new 2008? She said why the new one of course. "It looks too much like a Vette...I love your Yellow one and you love to work on it so much...." Hummm. I guess she has me pretty well figured out. Its not so much the new technology and bling-flash of the 2008 release...just a core enjoyment of being able to wrench on something and keep it competitive with whatever is out there on the street. Turnkey performance to me is only a jumping off point. If I can't wrench on it...I don't want to have anything to do with it. I hope the Viper always remains loyal to the aftermarket needs of its customers. Once things get too complicated for the yeoman tuner...then it wll loose its core appeal.

I think the SRT10 coupe is today's Bad Boy car. the thing is still a beast, ridiculous, and crude. But is with today's cars with crisp lines, nice wheels and paint, nice interior(for a viper).

The GTS isn't really a comparison because it's so much better...J/K
Hear me out, with the GTS you get a classic look that will never be mistaken for anything other than what it is, if you are 7,20,35,45,60, or 80 years old it still has an apeal to you. You also get today's performance, a stock 96 GTS can still smoke just about everything out there. It's not built in 1970 or earlier...meaning it's fresh a able to be driven hard...are you really going to take out an original 67 camaro and hammer on the thing...talk about brakes on our Viper.
That is all, if it were me
96 B/W GTS
06 B/W coupe
08 B/W coupe????

I have a question for those previously owning a GTS and now driving a SRT10 coupe:
How do you feel about the new coupe compared to the old one?

Before I made made my GTS purchase I asked myself the same question and came up with my conclusion of owning the GTS over the SRT Coupe. A friend of mine has an SRT10 which made the decision making easy. It drove nice (it was lowered so a bit stiff), brakes well, great lines, good power but for me the interior seemed more cramp and the placement of the pedals seemed too tight.

Now the GTS serves it's purpose for me: looks great, nice curves, drives great (only 6000 miles at purchase so like new). I fit perfect in the car and seemed to have more room to relax while cruising. The brakes and power wasn't a concern since it's upgradable to the sky's limit.

I don't think you can go wrong with either model because they are both awesome vehicles. But this car sitting in my garage gets me everytime I open the door so who care's if it's the GTS or SRT-10 it's still a VIPER...:headbang:
