Guys w/Paxtons: why did you go that route instead of N/A?

Thinking about future fun options for my Gen II and like the linear look of the power curve on the centifugal blower but was thinking why not go heads, cam etc if you are shooting for a "mid-level power" car and not a 1,000 hp monster? Especially since the blower adds weight and "complication." Seems like there are so many GenIIIs with Paxtons that it was more appropriate to ask the question here instead of the GenII board.

P.S. I have a 98 so I have forged pistons.

I got quotes of anywhere from $10-15k for heads/cam package. That would only have got me around 580 rwhp. Instead, for about $10k I got 100rwhp more then a H/C package. Also, Ive heard that paxton cars with cats can pass smog. Yet, the H/C package, a car cant pass smog. Its alot easier to remove a Paxton if needed, vs. reversing a H/C package. Lastly, its pretty cool popping the hood and seeing the Paxton. Those were my reasons, the biggest being the better power from a Paxton for same money.

A more aggressive cam will also alter the drivability from stock, whereas with a Paxton, if you didn't hear the whistle and kept your foot out of it, you would never know it wasn't stock. This is in addition to the comments above about "reversability" and increased power. I'd also say that a blower install is much easier than doing the heads/cam (though I am only speaking from Corvette experience, but an engine is an engine).

price is similar if not cheaper
more power from a base kit paxton
and just having OEM internals dont mean its gonna hold up necessarily

Paxton offers more power than heads/cam, and it retains 100% stock drivability and manners. It is also a well proven kit for these cars, with hundreds of guinnea pigs already running them :)

The 3 Paxton is well sorted out kit which includes a nice replacement airbox as well. The Gen 2 Paxton kits aren't as complete and are known for needing a tuner's touch to ensure 100% reliability.

And a lot of Gen2 guys have Roe S/C. Gen3 owners don't have that luxury. It's give or take anyway you go.

Paxtons= more power than n/a and cheaper than n/a, high powered paxton cars are insanely faster than any n/a Viper around. There are a few 900+ rwhp Paxton cars around.

N/A= better track car. Thats it. n/a cars will get smoked by a powerful Paxton car, considering heat soak and all...you will still get smoked by a properly built paxton car.:2tu:

I have the ability to say for price on your 98 go with nitrous,if it's in your budget my next choice would be turbo over the Roe and then the Paxton. The gen II cars require much more knowledge and fabrication than the gen III and I like keeping things simple.

For gen III the stock Paxton installed and professionally tuned is my number one choice. Nothing else needed.Car sounds stock and the power is there all the time and more than you will need on the street since we don't have traction control.

Yes,I have a 2008 and yes,I like my 2004 supercharged car better.

Why do you like your s/c 04 better than your 08?

The Suoercharged car kicks the 2008 coupe's butt. If you are only adding headers and exhaust or keeping stock the 2008 is the best Viper built by far and is definitely an upgrade.

But the best current bang for the buck would be a deeply discounted 2006 with a Paxton. Quarter-mile times may be close but from a roll you can say buh-bye.
