I know this topic has been covered, but with very few pictures. I recently built the hard top hoist, but realized that I didn't really need it. After all, once the hard top comes off for the season, it stays off (soft top in the trunk just in case). So, I'd rather not have the top suspended in the air! Does anyone have pictures of their custom racks that they have built on a budget? Not looking for anything fancy... but something simple, easy, and possibly on rollers would be interesting to see! PVC? Wood? What has worked for you? Thanks for the input. BTW, anyone have a picture of the Mopar stand? I heard it *****, but maybe the design could be modified slightly...

This may be a better solution than a floor cradle to trip over.I cannot take the credit for the design, there are smarter people out there than I.
I thought it was excellent (this is my first shot at posting a pic)- pressure
Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks for the pics. It looks like a bicycle rack.
I'm going to be putting together a metal shed, and this is a nice solution for the actual hardtop storage rack. Excellent.

The wall bracket one is similar to mine, though mine is a little simpler. I used 2 pieces of 1/8"x1"x18" flat stock. Bent 90's into them, screwed to the sill plate in my garage(at 4' feet El.) and padded with weatherstripping. I had the flat stock. Anything similar will do. I have seen some PVC stands. They work well, but take up room. The wall bracket method is totally up and out of the way. Our Viper resides under the hard top in the winter. Make sure you make the leg long enough to get a good angle against the wall. A couple of eye bolts above the roof with bungee straps back to the brackets would be pretty much failsafe.

Mine is easy and works
2 eyebolts into the studs in the garage wall
left over 1/2 remodelling sterofoam on the floor
moving blanket over the hardtop and bungie cord covered in pipefoam
the top is safe as a baby in a crib.
good luck

First of all, I can tell you are a person of great intelligence. A red 2000 RT/10 - what could be better? Nothing in my humble opinion. We have heard a lot about those "yellow" Vipers, but anyone who knows anything knows that red tends to be much faster and is always more attractive to members of the opposite sex.

As I had the same problem you are experienceing, I came up with the following low budget solution. First of all you can buy garage ladder holders from Home Depot (around $20), which are padded and mount directly to the wall. Second you can buy 7 yards of material, which matches what the soft top and rear window mount in (around $35). Then you have someone sew the material into a cover (thanks mom). You then place cover hard top on rack and leave there until you sell the car!

Simple and inexpensive.

Good Luck,

Roadking and 1BadBite,

You both win the award for best answer to my question (although I appreciated ALL of the responses). I will try and look for the ladder holder.

It looks like both of you used the same brackets... what do you think?

If I had an RT I would rig a simple pully system to lift it off and place it back on the car.Storage up in the air over the car.Throw something over it to keep the dust off. Bruce

Thanks to Michel in a prior post (and through PM)... I was able to put together the pulley system hoist pretty easily! However, I am SOOO scared of the top dangling in the air! Also, for the most part, when the hard top comes off I don't really plan on putting it back on for the season (soft top in trunk for emergencies). So, I'd rather have it sitting to the side. With my luck, the top would somehow slip out :(
