I had problems with my oil light coming on. I had both sensors replaced. My light just recently started to come back on again.

My gauge shows about 22-24 PSI's at idle (operating temp)the light comes on! Is that normal pressure on a 1998 GTS? When I give it some throttle and the pressure goes up the light goes off, but back to idle it comes on again. Are the oil pressure sensor..just a cheap sensor that needs to be replaced all the time?

What is normal pressure at idle? What would be causing my light to come on? My engine sounds fine. No rattling or anything like it was not getting oil. Help!!

Best way to check oil pressure readings is with a mechanical gauge.

Oil pressure reading at the gauge should be:
Approximately 10 psi at idle.
Between 30 and 80 psi at 2000 rpm.
Between 45 to 75 psi at 3000 rpm.
Higher engine temps greatly reduce oil pressure readings due to internal tolerance expansion and oil viscosity influence.

Have you checked your engine oil? Low oil will illuminate the malfunction light. Or, you may have another bad switch.

The general rule (and I stress general) is 10 psi for every 1000 RPM is safe. Might be a more specific requirement for the V-10. Hey Adam, I went driving this morning and my oil pressure never droped below 35 PSI on the gauge. If you replaced both sensors check acurracy of the gauge itself. Like Doug said get a mechanical gauge to check it out.

with 5800 miles on my GTS, cold idle is 60-65 PSI, hot idle is 50 PSI. Driving 2K RPM+ is about 60-65 again.
