eBay Motors: Dodge Avenger Caliber Caravan Viper Oil Filter Magnet (item 220303176272 end time Nov-05-08 06:09:33 PST)

I am getting a used rear end with 3.55 gears in it and was looking for a magnetic drain plug and ran across this? Never seen anything like it before, but looks like it might work. Nice thing is it keeps everything in the filter, so when you remove it everything comes with. Thought it might be worth mentioning.

Not quite as effective for aluminum engines though.

It's a little misleading. The magnet clips to the outside of the filter, which is on the upstream, "outside" of the filter paper. If you cut it open, you get surprised at what the magnet caught. But without the magnet, it simply would be on the filter paper....

While I certainly agree with Tom's comment, if you did want to play with it, this version looks a little more serious than the EBAY model:

That said, my own experiment proves that as least the UOA (used oil analysis) results show no positive or negative impact to it's use, Viper or otherwise.
