Has anyone used Vinyl for striping?

Or is that tacky? I really love the striping on the Comm Ed. I was thinking on my silver Mamba the same striping scheme in dark grey. And, VCA Ed. type black-out wheels... I found a wheel refinisher for that pretty cheap.

We have several Magnums in the NOVA area with vinyl stripes and they look REALLY good.

Nothing "tacky" about them...I had some on my RT. They don't have the life span of painted stripes, but unlike painted ones, they are cheaper and reversible.

Hi all,
How much is cheaper? Painting is about $2-3K right. How much for the vinyl stripes. Should they last for 3-5 year? I am thinking about put the stripes on my new Ram SRT/10 and the ACR. Anyone knows of some good shops in Orange,Ca. Thanks.

The Magnum guys paid just a few hundred, installed. The stripes were completely covering the car from facade across the hood, top and down the back. The vinyl is supposed to last for 5-7 years, I am sure much longer if the car is garaged.
And as the last responder indicated can be removed with no damage at all to your paint.

Funny GVenom, I just noticed you have the VCA Ed, with the wheels I like :)

Do you have any side shots of your car with the wheels showing well? In some photos they appear dark and others lighter grey. I guess they are powder coated/painted right? Are they glossy or dull?

I striped a few cars, and my best was my GTS Blue StealthTT. Put Viper GTS stripes on, GTS dimensions in Vinyl, "skunk stripes" Viper badges, too!

You better be GOOD if you try to make it conform to the F-R facia curves and coves. Difficult. Much easier to stripe and taper just the TOP portions of the body. My Vinyl stripes shrunk about 1mm all around in the first 6 mos, then stayed on fine. I occasionally used a clear vinyl dressing. An occasional Sealer-wax is very important or they start to check and decompose.

They do NOT come off easily, and you'll discover the paint underneath faded less over a few years.....leaving a ghost-stripe of darker paint.

Ken Lally, I do not have one of the 50 VCA SRT/10s with the blackout chrome wheels. I won my yellow/black stripes VCA SRT/10 in the VCA raffle. My wheels are normal chrome. Sorry!

Thanks for the input: JonB-PartsRack, DSR207.

Blue Batmobile, could you provide me with the contact info of the shop? I would like to call them for a quote. I want it for my new RAM SRT/10. Thanks, Trinh

HI well did try the Vinyl but found it was impossible to put on by an Amateur and a friend of mine who owns a comercial truck sign company.

In the end I used his vinyl as a pattern to mask up for the stripes and matched the blue which we paint to my wifes PT Cruiser
