I just got a 1993 rt/10, 57000 miles, and noticed that the rad cap was puking a little coolant. After a little research, noticed I had a 7lbs cap and not a 16lbs like original (don't know why)All the while the temp would come up to 200-210 and drop back suddenly to 190. After the new cap was put on it would hover around 210-230 and stay steady and different rpm's, idle, and speed. ...figured maybe air or lack of coolant. I read pretty much all different ways to burp the system, I chose to raise the front by 6" and fill it, run it cap off untill the thermostat opened, well 200 degrees came and all the while just a little coolant would gurgle out (never saw the fans on--what temp should they run at?). (tried a funnel but it was to hard to place.) Now I figured the air was out, so I shut the car down to cap it....and WHOOSH a giser blew out the cap opening....must have lost 2 or so quarts for sure. I let it cool down ..rinced the colant off the body, and when cool I filled the cap area back up, capped it and called it a night (not fun one either...lol)
I figured this was not normal...wanted some input on what I did wrong, and where the temp guage should buzz around normally in driving conditions. The temp outside here is about 70-72,
also what temp the fans are supposed to cycle at? and how the heck are we supposed to see the resevoir tank through the gromet on pass side....see the bottle, not the level??
thanks to all that chime in
