Would it be an adviseable precautionary measure to replace the head gaskets on a '96 RT-10? And, if so, how much would this precedure cost?

If you were going to do the heads at the same time I'd say do it now. As far as precautionary that is up to you. If they start to leak change them. The gasket kits are about $800

Absolutely!!!....had mine done under warrenty last summer by the dealer. Total shop bill was around $2K. Should do the thermostat too while you're at it.
