Header questions........

I'm close to installing my complete B&B exhaust, but have a few questions first:

What should the header bolts be torqued to? Retorqued after how many miles?

Are the headers more easily installed from top or bottom? Are there things in the way needing removal first?

Do you use the exhaust gaskets that come with the headers or are the stock OEM gaskets better?

Has anyone used JETHOT The Hottest Header Coatings! Jet-Hot, jet coat, hot jet, headers, coatings, sterling, Header coating, Ceramic coating, corrosion protection, friction reduction, thermal barrier, Metallic Ceramic Coatings, MCCI, metallic ceramic, exhaust coatin to coat their headers? Good enough for heat protection under the hood? Other suggestions?

I had my B&B headers Jet-Hot coated. When they coat then they do the insides also. So putting the pipes into the collector required some sanding inside the collector and the outside of the pipes. They do help with the underhood heat. Mine didn't stay pretty looking though, but that is probably due to the blower and a heavy right foot. I didn't torque mine, just rechecked them after a couple of heat cycles. Used factory gaskets. Can't remember if I had to remove anything besides the obvious stuff. It is easier to get the pipes into the collector from the bottom. Anymore questions just PM me.

did you reuse or install heat shields with your coated headers?
if you did not, any issues with melting things?

I had B&B's on my 2000 GTS, always use the shields, even if you coat the headers, it doesn't look as nice but an ounce of prevention ....

Have the car on a lift and you need a 2X4 and a big freekin' hammer to get the collectors all the way on. Have redone numerous sets that weren't together all the way and leaked like mad. If they don't have the "little tabs" for bolts to hold the collectors on the pipes, they will eventually come apart and leak.

I don't use any heat shield and nothing has been affected by any heat.

If you don't race constantly, heat shouldn't cause any problems. BUT, preventative measures don't hurt either.

sounds like a pain, are headers worth the grief? Is one brand of header better in the ease of install & lack of leaks?

the B&B headers, the tubes slide into the collector? How does that work, leak issues? What keeps them from coming apart? The B&B website doesn't say or show much.....

Instal the headers with stock 'tin' gaskets and a very light coating of high temp silicone (not necessary the first use of the gaskets). Snug all the header bolts/nuts. Start the engine and let it warm up. Then re-snug the bolts/nuts. Do not overtighten! Use short wrenches to help prevent overtightening.

After driving the car a time or two and the headers/gaskets have been heatcycled a few times retighten the bolts/nuts a final time. Also, if doing an oil change or maintenance it doesn't hurt to check the bolts/nuts. Macedo Motorsports installed nuts with E-clips holding the nuts from loosening. Excellent system.

You'll probably need to loosen the motormounts and use a block and jack to lift the engine to instal the headers.

All of this should be included in your installation instructions. Used headers?

I've been advised that the Silver jethot coatings always come off, so use Black. Not as pretty, but lasts forever. Personally I have TNT headers that are black and look exactly the same as when they were installed back in 2001. My exhaust gaskets had been installed upside down. Make sure the round part of the hole is at the top.

+1 for getting them thermally coated.

If it's within your budget, you could coat the entire exhaust. Keep cabin temps down and have the exhaust gasses flow more quickly.
