The stock "headers" on my 99 rt10 have a "kink" in them. i assume this is for the sole purpose of restricted airflow hence the reason many want to upgrade to real headers. cant you just put on factory size pipes without this "kink" so as to maximize airflow/performance yet avoid the increase in sound? is there any aftermarket pipes that can do this? any help from you gurus would be appreciated

The "kink" may be for flange bolt clearance. Regardless, stock exhaust manifolds are plain junk! You need look no further than the 90 degree collector. Depending upon year (in my case 99), a good set of headers can yield a very significant performance gain.

i agree about the perfromance gain , i just dont want the car any louder than the current corsa/hiflo cat combo so im trying to figure out if i can get the perfromance without increasing the sound

What kink do you speak of? Got a pic?

Are 1999 headers Stainless Steel? Do they look "exactly" like this? These are the 2000 stocker shorty street headers...

OK. Here is what I think he means by the 'kink'. If you look at your picture from left to right, notice the first two header tubes have a dent right after the first bend. It looks like someone took a hammer and smacked them.....
