Hi there,

I just picked up my first Viper 95 RT10 in black. Its a project car for sure and needs a restoration. The car is in decent shape with 75k miles, but needs a head gasket, and 20 other little fixes. Tons of white/grey smoke & steam from the exhaust. I'm making of list of fixes but the headgasket needs addressing first.

A few question:

1.) Best source of a head gasket kit? Anything else that I should replace while the heads are off? Thermostat, coolant hoses, and replace plastic power steering pump wheel? Is headwork really worth it on a Gen1 given its a non programable ecu? If anyone has a good how-to thread please post, I searched but I mostly get 404 errors.

2.) Stupid alarm triggers when I plug in the battery. The parking lights flicker and stay on killing the battery. The car didn't come with a key FOB so can't deactivate it. The car still starts despite the alarm being activated- which is weird. Any way I can just remove it complete or disable it permanently? Do I just need to order a new key fob?

3.) The car needs tires, the stock 17" tires are about 17 years old. Tire racks wants 2 grand for Pilot sports (ouch). Any other options here? Upgrading to 18" will give me better tire choice, but beyond that any other reason to upgrade. Any affordable options

Thanks in advance, can't wait to get this car going!

When I bought my 2001 RT10 it did not come with a remote key fob.I had the same problem with the alarm. I ordered one thru the local dodge dealer and they programmed it for me . I think it was only $125.00. That solved all alarm issues i had. Good luck with the rest of your project

Ron, Gen I Vipers are quite different.

By the way, you could have easily programmed the new key fob yourself...for free.

Next time, just call me. :)
