For those of you who might remember, Jason Heffner recently made some major upgrades to my 2000 RT/10 (built engine, fuel management system, supercharger, etc.) He just finished installing the intercooler on my car and dynoed the car with some pretty incredible results! I can't tell you how happy I am with the results. Once again Jason Heffner delivers as promised!

Prior to installing the intercooler, my car made about 670 RWHP and ran a 10.74 sec @ 135 mph at Bowling Green (on radials). Jason dynoed my Viper with the new intercooler and the results were incredible! 739.6 rwhp and 747.9 ft/lbs. torque! I've posted the dyno sheet below.

The really good news (if that's possible) is that, as you can see from the dyno sheet, there's more horsepower to be had (note the drop off at about 5200 rpm). The current fuel injectors maxed out and Jason is going to put bigger injectors in tomorrow.

I'll leave it up to Jason to talk about details (configuration and pricing). The next step is to get it back to the track and see what it does in the real world.

I also have to mention that mine is probably the most streetable, highly-modified Viper I've seen. This was a major goal for me. My car runs on 93 octane pump gas and does not have NOS or race fuel injection.

BlownViper:

My car was a Venom 650 that made 466 rwhp before Jason rebuilt it and added the whole blower package. Currently we're making about 11 lbs. of boost with a JT trim Vortech supercharger.

HP:

Obscene indeed! You should see the whole setup, it is very sweet!

Asif:

My trip was awesome! 8600 miles on my Harley, coast-to-coast and back again! Even rode down the Baja coast of Mexico a ways.

Anyway, you should come up and check out the intercooler, not only does it perform, but it's a work of art (talk about clean installation)! I'm dying to get it to the track.

Gary -- congrats, sounds like an awesome package and you will enjoy it immensely!

However:
> I also have to mention that mine is probably the most
> streetable, highly-modified Viper I've seen.

IMO this statement goes a bit over the line. You were at VOI (or at least your car was) which means you saw a number of other very streetable FI cars, including mine, Roof's, Dan's, etc. Speaking personally, my 996 RWHP DLM car is 100% streetable; I drove it 50 miles back from Beech Bend to VOI after the races that evening in the rain which is a testament to how easy it is to drive at street speeds.

Gary, Congradulations on the nubers!! I know how you feel!! awesome.. Enjoy that beast.....

That's the great thing about superchargers, they drive like stock until the boost hits.

Be careful out there and start destroying some bikes!!

WOW! Awesome power. One question: Did you have to replace the cast pistions with forged?

Thanks

Yes. My car is a 2000 RT/10 and had the cast pistons from the factory. I have Ross pistons and that's the only modification to the bottom end.

No harm intended, Ben. Perhaps I should have said, "one of the most". I'm glad to be in the same company as you and Dr. Roof and others.

Nope, unfortunately i think we are second fiddle to Treynor. But it is probably the highest hp car with a stock cam and or no race fuel or nitrous on board. I could be wrong, I'm sure I will be corrected shortly if I am.

Gary;

Congrats. In addition to being ultra-high performing and streetable, I'd add that your car is also beautiful. Saw it in person when I was having some mods done and was very impressed with it inside and out.

Can't wait to see the numbers--predict great things.

It seems to me Jason's customers cars might not have the highest dyno numbers but they really perform at the track. So either they are sand bagging or the numbers are conserative to start with by the way great numbers GARY. A JOB WELL DONE JASON, I HEAR THEIR IS A MAJOR DISCOUNT FOR CANADIAN CUSTOMERS SEEING YOU WANT A PRESENT IN THE GREAT NORTH.

> I thought treynor's car was making low 800s SAE motor only as well ?

We never got a good reading of my car off of NOS, because it spun the stock tires on the dyno drum at 880 RWTQ (SAE) at 4600 RPM
eek.gif
. That was with no dyno prep at all -- no cooling off the engine, no icing the IC, etc. Since then we've dropped the boost a couple pounds (it was nearly undriveable on the street) so I'd guess low-800s RWHP on blower only under similar conditions. I'll know for sure when I put it on one of the local dynos here with a couple hundred pounds of sand in the trunk for traction.

Gary's car certainly seems to be up there in terms of HP -- what were the test conditions (air temp, ice in the IC, operating temp etc.) and did you get SAE-corrected figures?

WAR DYNO NUMBERS!

Ice the intercooler?? what does that do? When mine was dynoed, it was about 90 degrees and car was driven 1 hour to the dyno and i know how hot my car gets in traffic AND the air filter was kept on the car. From what I understand taking the airfilter off will net another pound of boost, perhaps a little more..
supergrin.gif
... It's nice and cold here in FL now.. About 70 degrees and let me tell ya'.. I swear to you know what, I have another 50 rwhp +....
nonetheless..Great job!!
Regarding race fuel injection. It was an option I chose. I know what bad gas can do to a car. Even a point or two.I can run straight pump gas in the fuel cell. I've done it plenty of times. Just makes me nervous. With temperature change and different gas, I wanted to be safe..
It's too bad the colder it gets, the less bikes you see on the road. I waxed a GSXR-1000 the other day. Too funny. Not even close from a roll.

Icing the IC, removing the air filter, checking ambient temp etc. are all important as they significantly affect the power readings from a FI car. The Supra guys do this all the time, and it can make the difference between a 360 RWHP and 420 RWHP pull.

As for unleaded race gas, it's a no brainer out here in CA because we only get 91 octane pump gas, and I'd have had to take out too much compression to make the car work well on 91 pump alone. My local Yamaha dealer sells VP racing 103 in 5-gal drums, and it's no great shakes to pop over every couple months to get a refill.

Hey Gary,

You better do a 1/4 mile soon. With your recent mods, I suspect your time/MPH will improve greatly...

Later

P.S. - Tracks still open in MD?

With icing the intercooler it may help very little but that is not the conditions you run your car under. I use to do that with my buick but stopped because the fuel programme was not developed with icing etc, also we found other problems with ice melting when we put it on the heads and intake. Many times i could not find out why the car was missing under high boost and water on the wires and igition parts was the problem. Run the cars the way you dyno it and drive them in the real world conditions that is what it's all about.

I take it from all this talk about icing the intercooler that your i/c is an air to water unit Gary, correct? I would be interested to know why Jason went that route as opposed to an air to air unit.

Gary: your approach to dynos is the same as mine -- I want real-world numbers, not unrealistic brag figures -- and I believe you now hold the record for:

Most Powerful Supercharger-only Viper

... which is a very cool title indeed! Congrats!

Of course, I'm now gunning for YOU personally, so you might want to have Jason keep tweaking the car
supergrin.gif
We've got low-50s weather out here in CA, which should make for some very good SAE dyno #s...

Wow!!! This is good stuff! Just to clear up any misconceptions, I have an air-to-air intercooler. Originally we thought about doing a water-to-air unit, but changed our minds before going to Kentucky in September for a number of reasons.

I've gotten a lot of emails about posting pictures of the setup. I will as soon as some final cosmetic finishes are done and Jason gives me the go ahead.

Tires are a big problem for me. As many of you know I had to run radials at Bowling Green because I have the StopTech brakes on my car and I can't fit anything smaller than a 17" rim. I tried to use the Nitto 18" drag radials but they would work better on an International Harvester than a Viper (too tall). I understand that Mickey Thompson will soon offer a 17" drag radial but it's still awaiting DOT approval. I may just pull the rear calipers off so that I can get some real tires on the back.

Finally, Ben, I appreciate the comments and accept the challenge wholeheartedly--this could get fun!! Although I'll never do anything that makes this an outright race car. For me, the fun is driving around town and just enjoying the whole Viper experience (just a lot faster now!).

More to come...
