Help,

On my extended Gold Plan Plus I just had a brand new transmission, pressure plate, clutch slave cylinder, throw bearing put into my 94 RT 10 (the last 3 I paid for). My new transmission right out of the shop was grinding or clipping while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear on a fast shift. Now it grinds on a normal 2nd to 3rd up shift as well as down shift unless I double clutch. I now have 5000 miles on the new transmission My Viper tech says the synchro is gone on 3rd gear and that I do believe.

Now the District service manager here in Edmonton Alta says that no one else has this problem and that it appears to be abuse. (After VOI 7 and seeing how all of the 2003’s were run on the auto cross, please define abuse) When they take the tranny apart and find worn pieces the dealer made it clear that the DSM will not warranty this. Of course all of the associated costs will now be mine. In my mind I know where this guy is going with this so I’m prepared for a battle as I know what his next move will be when he inspects the tranny.

I have all of the documentation supporting multiple trips back showing that I have had problems from the 1st day that the transmission was replaced, as well as multiple clutch bleedings, another slave cylinder that the dealer changed out in their search for the problem.

There was also a new Corporate GTS @ VOI 7 that I was allowed to use that was also clipping in 2nd gear and I was asked to take it easy on the transmission as they needed the car to last until the event was over.

Has anyone else experienced any transmission problems with a new car or new transmission that would disprove this guy’s statement that “no one else has ever had a problem”?

I would appreciated any and all help on this and thanks in advance.

Did you get a new transmission or a rebuilt? Either way you could have problems with a transmission that was just installed, it would just be more likely with a rebuilt. How could they say you abused it if it had the problems right from the start? And why would the dealer care about replacing something under warranty? Is there a cost to the dealer? What is clipping anyway?

Joel,

The transmission was brand new. As far as abuse that is coming from the DSM (district service manager) and after the way we were allowed to drive Chryslers Vipers and trucks at this last VOI 7, I treat this car like a baby. Apparently the DSM does not believe the fact that the problem was from day one.

The dealer is pulling for me considering I have bought 20 new Dodge trucks from them over the last 2 years so they have a vested interest.

What I mean by clipping is a very slight grinding.........

That little grind going into gear could very well be the clutch dragging and not the transmission. Is it hard to pull it into gear? Does it grind when you are stopped and you go into reverse? If the clutch is dragging it will grind more going into reverse as there is no synchronizer on reverse. In the forward gears the grind might be less because of the synchronizers on those gears. It might be a little hard to push it into a forward gear when stopped. Does the clutch release normally or nearly all the way to the floor?

I had a replacement tranny installed and it was notchy and hard to shift right out of the box. The dealership swapped in another new one and it worked like a champ.

Joel,

I kind of believe that it was the clutch dragging due to air in the system that was not bled out. I had to persevere with the dealer that the pedal did not feel like it was up all the way. They ended up changing out the slave and master cylinder on warranty as well as multiple bleeding of the clutch until the pedal felt correct.

Unfortunately by this time the damage was done.

I'm facing a similar problem with extended warranty. Last time I changed oil the screen showed my mileage at 51K. I only have 12K on the car. I called and they told me my extended warranty had been canceled because the car was raced. What the H? How do they determine that. The car is perfect. Now the only way I can get re instated is to have it inspected by their adjuster. Since the car has an aftemarket exhaust I'm thinking they'll screw me. Anyone dealt with this service before? It's the Chrysler Extended Warranty. Sounds like a typical insurance company trying to cancel a policy after a claim (new Trans)
