99 ACR with Hennessee cold air package (relocated intake, larger throttle bodies and K & N filter) Mopar race oil pan, Hennessee ceramic headers with crafted heat shield on passenger side and Borla exhaust, Mopar performance roller rockers (we machined the rocker tower for proper fit) and custom Crane push rods, and Mopar ECU.

Yesterday and today I noticed a serious amount of heat at the side sills. Enough to sizzle water. These have never gotten very hot before. Anyone ever experience this or know what might be causing it. I haven't had a chance to start looking yet but wouldn't mind getting a head start on what to look for.

Thanks in advance, Phil C.

Is engine temp gauge running any hotter, I'd be watching that if you're concerned re a heat problem? Do you still have cats in? (OE are hottest part of the exhaust). Also, stainless steel pipes will run hotter than mild steel. The ceramic insulating coating on the headers will keep exhaust gases hotter too.

(Don't wear shorts, or step wide when getting out of your snake.)

Haven't noticed any significant differential in the temp gage. I only recently bought the car (which I absoluetly love) and the ambient temp has been cool until now. perhaps I was just over reacting. Thanks for the response. Isn't that level of heat going to negatively impact the paint down there?

Thanks again.

Depending on what color car you have, side sills that get hot enough so that you cannot keep your hand on them for too long will probably discolor from the heat. If it's so hot that you can't even touch them, you probably have a heat problem. I would pull off the side sills and check to see if the heat shields are still in place. They are made of insulation wrapped in a foil like material. While you have the sills off, take that opportunity to spray the insides with hi temp paint (VHT1500).

We have a SEVERE heating problem. Took the 2000 GTS to Charlotte Auto Fair and it got almost to the danger mark. Turned it off serval times in the traffic to all it to cool. Checked the cooling system for air, it was ok. after we got home that night , we found that it had MELTED the panel over the exhuast pipe at the REAR!!! A week later I started it to let the battery charge a little and it start steaming antifreeze from the right bank. The car is going to the D&E Dodge ( Tom Sessions to be evaluted. (He was at the show and checked it then). Any Engineer or knowledgable person reading this , please respond to me.

My car had exhaust leaks due to loosened band clamps holding my after market exhaust on. Actually caught the insulation in the side sill on fire a bit and discolored the paint. Happened again the other day to the other side and fried the O2 sensor wires. I am considering just welding the joints. I had resisted since I wanted to be able to slide the Cats out and replace with a pipe segment. Now I am reconsidering.
