Hey everyone,
I am looking for some help. I am in the process of putting in door poppers and thought I would upgrade the door speaker at the same time. I pull the speaker out and have four wires hooked to it. Two main power wires(light green(+) and dark green(-)) and secondary (blue) wires that then lead from the speaker to the tweeters. There looks to be a capacitor(guess) on the speaker that is between the green(+) and the blue(+). My question is, can I hook the tweeters directly with the green or do I have to use a separate capacitor to cut down the voltage? Thanks for any info,

Mike

Thanks for the input guys,
Marv S, capacitor cuts out certain ranges? OK, I don't know if I want to cut it off the speaker(may need it if I somehow are unable to complete this mission). I guess I will be heading to Radio Shack for a compatable Cap. Unless.....if Gerald is correct, and I don't need one because the new ones have it built in. Again, thanks guys.

Caps don't cut voltage, resistors do that.

In your app:
Caps act as a filter to block out low Fq signals thus protecting the small speaker from the bass

Coils act as a filter to block high Fq signals thus keeping the highs from going to the woofer

I would replace the tweets as well, any decent tweeter nowadays should have a built in "caps" to filter out ,lets say anything from 1k and under...

Are you changing out the tweeters? If you are, don't assume that the cap will be the same for a different speaker. The capacitor is set in a high pass filter configuration and the capacitance is determined upon that tweeters specific characteristics (impedance, frequency range of operation, etc). Change the tweeter and you will most likely change those characteristics and the value of the cap.
