Help - Need Paint Advice

This past week I took my spotless silver SRT-10 to a "viper vendor" to have a Autoform roll bar installed so I could participate in Viper Days. During the bar install one of the vendor's employees dropped the bar on my passenger mirror and door. The owner felt bad and agreed to paint the door and mirror. Today he delivered the car and the door looked great in the direct sunlight but when the sun went down the door looked darker than the adjacent panels. I asked some of my friends to look at the door and they all agreed the door was darker. When I called the vendor he said he only painted the mirror and top of the door and then clear coated the entire door. He said the clear coat wouldn't affect the appearance of the bottom of the door so the paint must of always been mis-matched. He said Viper panels are painted at different times and he noticed that my quarter panels didn't match my hood. I am very picky and I think I would of noticed the panels didn't match before this situation. Has anyone else had a problem like this? If the vendor is being honest about only painting the top of the door, would Dupont clear coat darken the appearance of the existing paint? The vendor is reputable and I think he is willing to work with me. Do I ask him to paint the entire door (that he claims he never painted)? Should I have him clear coat the adjacent panels? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Have a small scratch in the fender of my red SRT10. Had it detailed by a body shop to see how much of the scratch could be removed. Part of the scratch went into the color coat so that portion is still there.

I inquired about painting the fender. The Shop MGR. said they would have to paint the fender and blend in the adjacent panels to make it look really good. He suggested to leave it alone as most people would never notice the scratch. So painting only a portion of your door and putting clear on the rest seems like a less than ideal approach to fixing your door.

This is one shops opinion. Check around and see what Body shops suggest.

The Viper panels are pre-painted so it is possible for small differences but Conner Ave seems to do a very good job of making sure the color matches.

 

[Finally got it !]

DP, when I smacked up the side of my car they needed to blend the rear quarter. My guy only painted part of the rear. It is flawless. You cannot tell the paint was touched. From any angle, any light. Have him do it over or go some where else.
P.S I too have a silver one....

In my opinion, if your car is an 03 and was just repainted, it is very likely that the new paint is darker than the existing paint.

Some shops are better at blending / matching than others. You may want to try another shop as Finally says.
