I have had my 94 for two months, No matter how hard I try to put the soft top together it's not working.
The two large side bars are not lining up with the top, Could it be that the top has gotten smaller over the years? SHRINKAGE?? What 's the trick? all of you with a Gen I. any suggestions? The top is great condition. Looks easy enough, slide the bars to the top, clip the pin in the point. I can't get it to that point. Any suggestions??

You could try removing the sport bar and see if you can make any loosening adjustments. When I took mine off to install the 3 piece trunk top I noticed the set bolts appeared somewhat adjustable. Maybe crank those and set them looser somehow? Depends on how off it all is I guess.

Do not remove the sports bar for this...

Does yours have thumb screws at the the front corners? If so, remove them and get the side bars close to connection, line up the mid/top bars along the sidebar slots..... Pop the first sidebar into place and set the screw. As for the other side; Line up the mid/top bars with the sidebar slots then give the sidebar a good tap at the front where the screw is, then set it in place.

Your top is probably in very good, like new condition. When you get the thing together, don't forget to twist/push the plastic side pieces under the top window holders. The fabric is tight but it'll stretch to fit just a bit.

Wish I had a good vid of this. There are some things that just can't be written, but I tried..... Not sure why I bother.

Cheers !

No,
Mine does not have any screws at all. It has a clip, if you get into place, then you slide the clip to hold it. The problem is it seams to be at least 1" short into getting in place. Some has suggested that i wet it down, and maybe it might streach? The top is like new condition. May have been on only a few times in 18 yrs. Then I have all these bars in the middle for support that are loose.
