HELP - Positive batt post is stripped!!

I tried to install the battery tender on my newly acquired '98 GTS last night. I wasn't able to remove the nut on the positive power post under the hood. When I apply force, the ENTIRE bolt/nut assembly rotates in place, not allowing me to take the nut off.

So, it would do no good to cut the nut off with the dremel tool...........the stud still turns freely and would not allow me to tighten a new nut down. I tried unbolting the PCM/ECM assembly but there's too many wires from every angle to get it out enough to mess with.

What do I do??? Do any of you know what the under side of that terminal looks like or have any ideas on how to fix the problem? Thanks,

have you tried takeing channel locks and while gripping the top of the post, try and turn the nut. Put some tape around the bolt, so you dont mar the threads.

You are not going to like this - but a while back Chuck Tatar made a comment that when that bolt rotates the PCM has to be replaced. You probably should call him.

Ditto, Chuck told me the same, and I believe it is something like 2-3 thousand dollars for the wiring harness, if damaged.

Ouch!!!!!!!! just out of curiosity why the whole wireing harness, its just the bolt.

Tator told me about this as well. Said to be very careful with the post. Said he saw problems with aftermarket stereo etc. installs where techs had stripped the darn thing. Ouch!

This happened to my '97 when in at the dealer on the 998 recall. They stripped the stud, had to replace the whole PDC, dealer net on it was something like $2100 CAD.
I know that viperpartslarry had one new and at least one used for reasonable prices.
Just a thought.
I did have a look at it once it was off, a creative guy might be able to 'rig' something to replace the stud. But you'll need to get that thing off first. Consider that all power for every thing but the starter comes through that stud, if it's spinning it's not making contact with the bus bar the way it should. Could lead to unexpected pwr failures, say while driving down the road, or while the key is inside, etc.

Ted, I hate to say it but your screwed!! That bolt goes down into the "Power Distribution Center" and it is spot welded to a bunch of copper plates. The PDC only comes with the wiring harness "head lamp to dash" #4763082AK MSRP $2370.00 and there is NO stock at all at DC!!

just wondering about this...im about to have an aftermarket stereo put in my gen 1...is there something i need to tell the installer, or should i sit and watch this guy install the stereo?...and what do i do to keep him from stipping this out on my car?

GENI's don't have that post/bolt and I would sit there and watch the install!
