Well, i was at the track all weekend and the car was fine, i did have a leaking gascap that should now be fixed, but JUST TODAY, when i got in the car it threw a P1494 code.

I did a search but came up with a bunch of year old posts that are pretty vague......anyone know what could cause this? car seems to be idling a bit rough and has a bit of surging about 2800rpm's

HELP!

A bunch of stuff could have caused that error. I would re-check that the gas cap is not leaking again, then visually inspect all the lines and connectors associated with the LDP. If all looks good, I would take it in for the dealer to test.

yeah, i think the cap is sealed good now, but i may look at buying a new cap anyway just to be sure, want to get one that locks anyway.

is there a way to clear out the PCM without taking it to the dealership?

1) You can clear it with a code scanner
2) You can unhook the battery. Most like to leave it unhooked for 30 minutes. Drawback is that the PCM is cleared of everything it has learned and driveability may suffer until it relearns.

I had that code a couple of years ago. Problem was the fuel vapor scavenge / recycle pump up in the left front of the car, underneath the headlight. Mine was replaced under warranty.

that part is called the Leak Detection Pump and Canister....check the lines for cracks and such....buy a new cap from dodge!!....some of the aftermarker caps don't bleed down like the mopar cap does...some bleed faster..and get the code cleared and see if it comes back...if your cap is loose or leaking it will throw that code....

Here's what I have on it from the powertrain manual.

P1494 - Leak Detection Pump SW or Mechanical Fault

When monitored: Immediately after a cold start, with battery/ambient temperature between 40F and 90F and coolant temperature within 10F of battery/ambient.

Set condition: The state of the switch does not change when the solenoid is energized.

Possible causes:
- Wiring harness intermittent
- LDP switch sense circuit shorted to ground
- LDP vacuum supply
- Leak detection pump
- LDP switch sense circuit open
- Powertrain control module

This is followed by a series of tests (too much to type). I can fax it if you are interested.
