I'd have your exhaust checked out for leaks or your plates changed to "le pue".

PS Michigan failed the federal air quality test and rumors of re-instated smog testing are bountiful. Hopefully the State will get smart and attack the major contributors instead of the automobile end user.

Ummmm.... having seen a little of the statistics and also feeling the air quality pressure (being part of the fuel industry,) I suggest that engines without (functioning) catalysts can be (in the big picture) one of those major contributors....

If you search the posts, there are topics re the stink when you remove the cats. I recall seeing a few posts which disagree, but you will find a number of comments that removing the cats causes the stink. I agree that high flow cats are the best option.

Bad welds, go to another shop and have the pipes checked. You won't know about the CO poisoning (colorless/odorless), If you smell exhaust the CO is there

. If the job was sealed up correctly you would not have the problem. I had a 440 Six Pac R/T Charger (1970) and the same thing happened to me, I took it to another shop and had the welds re-done fixed the problem immediatly.
Cheers

I have Sean Roe's. They sound great and FLOWWWWWW. I only paid approx. $125 a peice. Your side sills will get hot, even with high flow cats, but not nearly as bad as stock. I actually like the sound of the exhaust MUCH better with the High-Flow Cats installed. Not as raspy... A smoother, deeper sound.

Later

P.S. - Sean has done dyno testing where he only lost 2-3 HP with his High-Flow cats vs. no cats.

I tried to E-you but no deal. I am very worrried for your safety and that of your passengers,

-Exhaust manifold gaskets can stink/leak and are sputtery.
-Defective/loose O-2 sensor bungs can cause the lite and the stink.
-Clamped deleted-cats ditto. Leaking clamps
-leaking header-collectors.

GET IT FIXED............and get some good HF cats.

P.S:
Random Tech cats are purpose-built for Viper. A bit more expensive, but we can cite flow rates from 390CFM-523CFM for our 3 levels of RT cats. 5-yr warranty in writing. Please call por mail if interested. DEEP DISCOUNT off RT web prices at PartsRack!

These are not 'universal' cats that fit other applications including trucks and ricers. (Square-peg---round-hole technology.) Most universals rate only weight or cubes, not flow.

Ask Belanger or Corsa which ones they recommend: RT.
