I went to a DE at Coronado a couple of weeks ago. It was a (cough) PCA event. I gave one of the instructors a ride later in the day. He's my neighbor and invited me and help stage the event.

After the session he was surprised how fast the car was in the corners. He also commented about how will the TC worked on the car as we came off the corners. I say, uh...the only driving aid this car's got is ABS..."WHAT?????" he says. "man you're smooth then"...

I said, thanks....that's the best compliment I've had in weeks.

Carl,

Sounds like a good group, as we have a great bunch of Porsche owners in our area. They actively invite alot of folks that do not have Porsches to come out and join them on the track. Nice to see you have a congenial bunch of car guys out there too. I always find that many of them are quite surprised at the Viper's potential, but even more so when they find out we have to just drive the car without any of the typical aids so many machines have today.

You should feel good about the comment you received ,as we have all found out that smooth is fast in a Snake.:2tu:

I went to a PCA event back in GA some time ago without the Viper. Those folks were a little uptight. This group was a subset of the normal group and sign ups were very reviewed. David and I were the only Vipers there. It was a great day. David was much faster than me that day....He was much faster than several other cars that suggested while we were in the staging lane he might want to let them pass so as not to hold them up.....David for such a mild spoken guy said....*&^#& with the gas pedal.

Awesome Carl. That's what it is all about. But none of these pro-nannie whimps would ever know the thrill of learning how to handle a car. They probably never threw a touchdown pass or hit a home run either.

Unless of course they had owned a pre 90 930.

First I am a Viper lover to the core, it will always be my car. But I have recently learned what other track rat lovers have been trying to teach me for two years. Nobody in their right mind tears up a brand new $100,000 plus car racing unless you have sponsors, etc. paying the bill. In real races, the car is gonna get whacked by something, sometime. The PCA guys are not a bunch of wimpy, tech loving, geeks because the cars they drive on the track have most or all the nanny stuff removed. They are all older than dirt Porsches that take all the skill one would ever want to try to have to drive fast. The PCA and the VCA guys are mostly all wonderful and just have a passion to race but don't need to malign one another. The PCA just more races and also more support simply because they have been at it longer than we have and there are more old cars around that can be bought for a song to prep to race. I hope someday there will be old Vipers tearing around gutted, roll caged, in great numbers like there are vettes and porsches now. It's all good guys and we just need to look at the PCA sometimes and learn from what they do right.

Uh...this was an HPDE event not a race. And other than the fact it was put on by PCA the comment in my post had nothing to do with them.

It did have to do with the fact that an experienced driver thought my car had traction control based on the way I drive. So, that function can be learned rather than bought and a jab at chuck for being such a ninnie on nannie controls.

Yeah and that was my point, it's the driver not the car or the nannies that make the difference.
