There was value in there and numbers of that value just changed.

not every one has the same reasoning when buying a car. My mentality is the same was dealers. Buy them at a great price, enjoy for a couple of months and sell them at the same price.

This move by dodge just screwed up the used car market and every dealer out there that has a used genV sitting on their lot.

you can not just reply by saying oh well.
Its as if your house gets robbed and personal belongs are stolen. you cant just say oh well, you would wanna do something about it.

Cars are excellent investments when you know what you are doing. why do you think dealerships are in business.

Dang, this is amazing news. I wonder if 2013's can be had for like $75k if the dealers want to dump them. My 1998 GTS stickered for close to $75k after the gas guzzler tax. This will help with those on the fence for a Z06.

Can you change the title? If so, it would seem appropriate to do so. This press release indicates the Viper is going to live on and that is great news for the Viper Nation. That is what we should be emphacizing. Dodge managment and marketing is clearly now on the right track.

This is exciting stuff.
I honestly disregarded the title Dman, it is good news, and knowing the other details I know (that Dodge has told us not to tell, and yes I hate to be that guy, but the details are coming this week, promise), we have much to rejoice over.

Are you guys %&*%ing kidding me??? Is this the kind of brainwashing we're down to on this forum now?

In case you guys haven't noticed, Chrysler is in business to SELL CARS AT A PROFIT. The GenV Viper has been a DISMAL FAILURE. It's the best car made that NOBODY is buying.

This is good news for one group and one group only...the people that were on the fence about a new GenV. For everyone else it's a MASSIVE kick right in the inseam. It is an unprecedented discount on halo car. The are some very smart and very successful people on this forum that have a greater grasp of economics than 99.9% of the population, but apparently we're choosing to ignore that.

Why do we have to sit around and pretend otherwise? Why do we have to sit around and pretend that the GenV owner focus groups this year didn't LAMBASTE Chrysler for the way that they have handled SRT and handled the Viper? The focus groups took the dealers and the OEM to task and they were RUTHLESS about their purchase & ownership experience. Why do we have to sit around pretend that a vast majority of dealers haven't been SCREAMING at Chrysler to do something?

The sales numbers are an issue. The C7 is an issue. The price and performance of the C7 Z06 is an issue. The lack of GenV's on the street and on the track is an issue. The price gouging at the GenV launch was an issue. The price point, performance and market perception of the Hellcat horsepower numbers is an issue.

The industry and the automotive press has regarded the GenV marketing plan as a FLOP and they are correct. This is a heavy-handed and somewhat desperate attempt to undo some terrible mistakes.

The thread title was correct and whomever changed it should be bloody ashamed of themselves.

If you want Value, do not buy a Car, worst value for the $$$ Buy Gold NOW. If you like the Car, like me, It doesn't matter. Best car on the Docket!!

Thats one way to look at it. However, if you buy smart, exotic cars like the viper can be great investments.

Where's that darned face palm emoticon again?

No one is saying that SRT did some perfect marketing job and dismissing the issues since day one of the gen5 launch, we all know all this stuff.

Dodge has taken all the feedback and is actually doing something about it.

Moving the car from a standalone brand at SRT, back to the Dodge herd certainly changes the internal financials, as many of us know who've run multi-divisional publicly traded companies.

These realignments allow for the ability of Dodge to effect this magnificent change. Provide a new price point that is historically in line with their customer base, make it retro for existing product inventory AND create a loyalty program that is quite impressive - like we had back in 2003 when the gen3 came out, which I used at the time going from a new gen2 to a new gen3. Yes, this is not new for Dodge or Viper.

Your interpretation is your opinion, and frankly any brain washing going on in this forum is in line with your message. You'll find more positive spin to gen5 news over on the GT500 or Vette forums than here. I assume a mod changed the title to be less of a troll connotation (not saying this is trolling, but the title was harsh like one) and more of a gen5 forum thread. But good luck with that.

Wait a minute. The words "Dodge hit the panic button" are inoffensive, innocuous and completely apropos to the discussions that have occurred since this car launched. Frank and candid discussions among enthusiasts of *any* product to are bound to have positive and negative ebb and flow.

Imho things are getting labelled "trolling" waaayyyy too quickly.

Cheers.

Please show us which Viper has gained in value (numbers, please).

Perhaps it has not been made clear enough. This is the Viper Club of America. We support the Viper and Dodge. We try to be respectful and, where approrpriate, give constructive, thoughtful suggestions that consider what is realistically possible. Dodge is genrous enough and kind enough to support our functions as they did for the Viper vs Viper race at the Air Force Base and as they will at the upcoming VOI.

So snide remarks, disrespectful remarks, and plain obnoxious remarks posted by people who really know little or nothing about what Dodge and SRT have to go through to produce and market a car are not appropriate here and should be deleted by the mods. The place for those types of remarks is Viper Alley where "anything goes". So the statements about freedom of speech are absurd. That would only be true if there were no other sites on which to post the comments.

Am I an SRT and Dodge loyalist? Yes. And proud of it.

Perfect time to buy gen5 for those who are on the fence, I hope they sell all the 13-14 before 2015, I would buy one now if I could and enjoy it everyday, hopefully within next year, Thank you Dodge.

Well then, perhaps it is time for a mod to give CLEAR WRITTEN boundaries as to what EXACTLY constitutes constructive suggestions. If there's going to be censorship, the polite and respectful thing would be to explain to passionate Viper enthusiasts when that censorship will/will not be enforced.

Gee **** Bob...that sure sounds snide to me. I really would appreciate if you would rephrase that and give me something a little more constructive and thoughtful. Perhaps it has not been made clear enough to you.

Am I an SRT loyalist? Yes. And proud of it.
Same here. I vote with my wallet, I buy Vipers and I go the the extra mile *and* extra dollar to save Vipers from being relegated to the cutting torch.

Regards.

Saying that Dodge " hit the panic button " when in reality they certain didn't. Panic would be they killed the viper program, racing, production, etc. They did some very calculated work on this, they have to, this isn't " panic ". In terms of running a company, anyone referring to what you're doing as a panic button move, yea, that's inflammatory and degrading - hey, which is fine. The issue here is, this is a great action by Dodge and then you have someone go out of the way to make a negative post/thread out of it. To argue otherwise is disingenuous and silly, it's common sense, anyone reading it took it as disparaging, in the face of Dodge trying to save our beloved car and take care of loyalists. I guess we can agree to disagree.

And, if you don't like people defending the viper or the company that makes it, then you're in the wrong place. You can argue that you have the right to bash Dodge here, but I guarantee you we have the right to defend it in a Viper forum.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

kilr4d, I suggest you read this. Everyone was put on notice whether they choose to admit it or not.

http://forums.viperclub.org/threads/671293-Gen-5-Trashing

And for ease of reference, here is what it says. That should be sufficiently clear to all.

Gen 5 Trashing

Will Stop Now. Any overtly negative post, or trashing pricing, or anything that is not in the best interest of new existing, or prospective, Gen 5 owners will not only be deleted, and the user warned, but a second infraction will result in being put on moderation.

This has gone on too long, and has gotten out of hand. We HATE moderation, but we are left with no choice.

This is in effect immediately, please flag any objectionable posts.

I read it quite thoroughly. Still stand by my assertion that "panic button" is so far from "overtly negative" or "trashing pricing" as to be laughable.

I have a question about this. I didn't buy a Gen V so I don't get the $15k voucher. That said, does the $15k from Dodge given to all dealers to move the cars apply to already discounted cars?

For example, would this car be $70k?

http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/601387822/overview/

You would think so, otherwise I don't see how they are going to move 13s that are still sitting around.

As a still proud owner of a Gen V Viper, I'm a little on the fence with this "instant" discount.

Does it make me regret my purchase? Hells no. It just makes me wish I'd waited a little bit. Like many have said, those who were "on the fence" about this car should have just been kicked straight off it.

Tim Kuniskis is trying to make this car move. No, they can't add all the tech and features non-owners whine about, but they can fix the price. Whether or not something bigger is coming for the 2016 MY, Tim and Dodge know that with the Hellcat making more power than the brand's halo car, they really can't justify charging so much.

Chrysler sales numbers are up across the board, and they sell so few Vipers already that there's plenty of other lines to share any loss for this.

I'm sure the Z06's pricing certainly has something to do with it too.

Dealers are dealers though. Most were giving pretty good discounts already. Unless Dodge has agreed to reimburse them $15,000 straight up, I'm sure that any price that was already more than $15,000 less than MSRP will be adjusted right back to MSRP, and then the discount taken straight off that. Maybe I'll eat my words, but I doubt you'll be seeing any $60k new Vipers anytime soon. If you do, BUY ONE.

As for us Gen V owners, it will be another year before the 2015.5 TA 2.0 is out, and I'm not going to stop driving my car until then. It makes no sense for me to trade my car back in on another one. I'd probably never come out ahead. The official blog of Chrysler says

Current Gen 5 Viper owners to receive a certificate worth $15,000 to be redeemed toward the purchase of a new Dodge Viper. This $15,000 certificate is in addition to the $15,000 price reduction

Does this mean I can trade my car in on a different new 2014, get both $15,000 discounts?? There's probably some fine print I don't see.

Like with any new car owner witnessing depreciation, and I'm not sure this technically qualifies, you know it's going to happen. No cars accrue in value. The dealerships who are trying to sell $160k GTS models still won't sell them at $145k, so this discount isn't really all that much.

In the end, lowering the bottom line may make this car possible to others who discounted it because of the six-figure price tag.

Something like this had to happen, and I'm glad that Dodge did something about it.

You heard it here first folks, if grumpy gramps says it's a "fantastic deal" and "they have the right conditions for sales now".....you better jump on it. Pffft.

Dman, I got to say for you to get your feathers ruffled this guy really got under your skin.

Question on the certificate. Are they going to send them to the owners or do you download them or what? I assume you don't have to trade it in.

Don't you have to take a selfie to try to prove to others and yourself that you "are a real man"? I stand by my words above. This is the best deal seen on the car over the years. Since you are new here, you don't have the benefit of that knowledge. Granted, it is not a butchered red and white Gen II, but hey, not everyone can be you.

Nice to see that you troll around the site to see what I post. You have great meaning to your life, obviously. Go call someone else "***" or something and get your shot of self worth..... You are becoming legendary on two sites......a fate few have accomplished. Please continue to entertain all of us with your wisdom.

I think everyone can agree, the Viper program going forward is a good thing for the Viper Nation. It is rare you see a company step up and take care of their buyers, as they are doing for previous Gen V buyers. I certainly appreciate not being forgotten, something had to change and Dodge is making those changes. I am not sure what I will do, I bought my Gen V to drive it and that's what I am gonna do....

Has anyone confirmed that dealers are taking the 15K off the already lowered sticker price?

One other question so is Stryker red still an option for the 2015/2016s?

Is the GT going to get the standard GTS seats....I liked them better than the Laguna.
