Guys;

I am getting closer to purchasing and hopefully Sean is getting closer to releasing his GEN III Blower package soon and was curious as to if anyone has come up with a Hood security lock system. Most cars have a two staged hood release system with a cable/lever in the interior, then the pull lever up front to release the hood.

I have an 08' Hood on my 06' Viper and if the blower kit is as bolt on as Sean says, they could have my Blower assembly off and running (probably along with my 08' Hood) just as fast a thief of yester-year would have a tri-power intake off an old "Goat". Then there I sit.

I rarely leave my Viper out of sight and definitely not outside overnight without being locked up. However I want to drive the car more and do a couple of longer runs in the future which will probably take me out of my safe zone, hence I would like to look into a hood secure system. It can involve a solenoid or cable assemble. Preferrable would be a solenoid lock that can be released with the push of a button and then just open the hood from the front like it does now.

Any ideas?

I've thought about this same issue- the ease of popping the hood from outside the car. I would be more worried about tampering or vandalism than theft. Most Viper owners don't hang out in sleezy high risk areas, leaving their cars parked unattended for long durations.

Also, something to think about is that there really is no demand for the blowers other than in the Viper community and most members are stand up, honorable individuals.

Rule of thumb- if a theif really wants something he will get it, regardless the safeguards. I would recommend looking more into insurance coverage if theft is the concern.

With all that being said (and without answering your question at all- sorry :dunno:), if you come up with something let me know please. I would be interested in this to protect against tampering or vandalism.

Just my $.02, but most keep their cars locked up in a garage with the alarm on if they are worried. That being said, the protection is there...........kinda. 99.5% of all cars nowadays have hood releases int he car and that is where any thief/vandal would be looking. Unless they are familiar with the car, they won't get inside the engine compartment. Probably the only car that goes "old school" on opening the hood.

Honestly I think they would jack your wheels or steel the whole car before actualy leaning over your hood and removing a supercharger. I just don't see it as an issue. If they want something as bad as your supercharger why not just take the whole car and part it out:dunno:. Get a mean ass starving shizu and leave him in the car :D

I park my viper unattended in many places and would like this option also. The alarm will sound if you open the hood but just that little something extra is nice to have!

When I flew into LA to look at my car when I bought it, it took me and the salesman over an hour to figure out how to open the hood. Kinda embarrassing.:confused:
Funny enough, after test driving it there. I had it shipped to Vegas to avoid paying the sales tax. Get the car out of the enclosed trailer at midday, and the heat is unbearable. So I put up the roof and windows, and realize the windows are tinted.:cool:
Before that moment I couldn't have guaranteed that the car even had windows!:lmao:

Well, we tried!

Thanks for the responses anyway. I am very well aware of not going to shaddy areas and leaving the car outside, overnight, etc. I have a couple of collector cars that never leave my sight etc.

My concern was that I wanted to start doing longer club runs where they go somewhere for a long weekend. Kind of hard to just put the car in over the night when I don't know a single person in the town we might be staying in.

Despite the great Viper community we have, there are crazys in this word and theives that just want to jack it and sell it quick. Hood, blower or else, is what I want to try to protect. Maybe it is just piece of mind, I don't know.

If there is not a product out there now, than I will have to rethink how I could come up with something when the time comes. Maybe I am the crazy one?

Thanks

does anybody know:dunno::dunno:

No the hood does not lock. The alarm sets when you lock your doors via keyless remote and if you lift the hood with the doors locked (you can do that) the alarm goes off. Hope this helps.

I still see this as a mute point but thats my opinion. :bur2:

Mute point or not, thanks for replying.

I will come up with something. I know this is a concern for some, more than myself.

Just tired of trying to explain it to anyone who doesn't get it. Yah they can just lift the hood if they want, Yah they can take whatever they want, whenever they want. If we all subscibed to this rather narrow mindedness, NO vehilces would have a lock or use for keys or anything.

Just forget it!
