I went to Willow Springs International Raceway yesterday and ran my new Hoosier tires, wow. WSIR is not a tight technical course just VERY fast. At Viperdays earlier this year my best time was 1:41.03 (on stock Pilots), my best time yesterday with the Hoosiers was 1:35.9, that's over 5 seconds. On a more technical course I'm sure the difference would be more dramatic, any road racer who gets the chance should run a few sessions with these tires, I'll never go back to stock Pilots.

That's exactly what I found at TWS. A 5 sec improvement in my '95 going from XGTZs (ugghh) to Hoosiers. Now the new Pilot Sports are soooo much better than the old crapola XGTZs that I wonder about that level of difference between them and Hoosiers. I'm guessing more like 2-3 sec. I'm thinking seat time is partially responsible for what you're seeing.

I did go to your website and downloaded the video of Road America.... I will be there!! This looks like a very high speed course and alot of fun.

I wont be bringing my car though I am going to do the Arrive and Drive thing with Tom Glenn. So I can experience both a Prepared Car like mine and an Unlimited car also.

Should be fun.

If you mean Hoosiers then yes, they are DOT, but IMO it's a waste to run them on the street.

If you mean Hossiers, those were the large women on Bannaza. Don't know if they're DOT or not. Serious Eric would know since Hossiers are from his neck of the woods.

John, enjoy Road America. I loved it. If $$$ changes between now and then I'll see you there.

On this track they're worth 8+ seconds vs Pilot MXX3s. I ran a 2:35.7 last month on MXX3s. My best time ever on sticker Hoosiers is 2:26.8. Car setup and track conditions were nearly identical.

You must be registered for see images

I like to run a full session on street rubber at most tracks - that way I don't kid myself about what the car's limits are when I'm not on race rubber. You shouldn't either.

[Cliff_Claven_Voice]It's a well known fact that a Hossier is a large rural woman of such stature and girth as to be rendered frightening and uninteresting to most human males. The Hossier typically finds ****** solace with a Bannaza (as Chuckie so aptly pointed out), or lacking said ******* tropical fruit, a beast of the field usually of the equine persuasion ... Known in the vernacular as a Hoss. Hossiers are NOT to be confused with the Indiana women's basketball team.[/Cliff_Claven_Voice]

Chuck, Iowa viper days is way too far afield for this girly man. TWS and Motorsport Ranch is about all I ever manage. And BTW, that's BONANZA sparky, not BANNAZA! *** were you thinking spelling-bee boy?

This is a little off topic, but I need you real racers to help me...I have never been to a track before...I want to go...

HOW do I get over the fear of running my baby into a wall...I don't want damage, but don't know how to go faster and faster when I am just progressing to the point of losing traction and crashing...

Do I need to run around a track many times, incrementally going a little faster each time...? But what will tell me I can't be any more aggressive??

Maybe I need a driving school, I think I am missing how to receive a signal from my car that its at/near its limits??

Tomer, the best school you can go to is Viper Days. They have the rookie group that I promise you will feel very comfortable with.

Just do it! Do it! Do it!

That is easy to avoid. You will steer the car where you look. Keep your eyes up and look down track. Of course if your always looking at the walls and then one jumps out at you your toast. Cause you will stare it down thinking about the damage your going to incur. There are plenty of safe tracks, what you also need to understand within these tracks there are safe turns to explore limits and then there are turns not to play around with. The Viper days events are a good arena for learning, you start out at your own pace, nobody elses.

Hoosiers make life too easy. The only time I got to run Hoosiers was on GTS Dean's car one morning and that car just plain kicks A anyhow. Never ran them on my GTS. If you want to have some fun and learn the car run streets and everything else your first season and work on keeping up with the guy on stickies. Learn to balance the car and you'll have some real fun. Then slip a pair of those Hoosiers on and enjoy the difference. After that it's Eagles. If you want to make sure you never learn to drive put Hoosiers on before you can max out the car with Pilots.

It KILLS me to read I missed another Cabaniss. The only time I ever made that event I got to watch Dean clean up in his street GTS placing only hundreths of a second behind a full race trailer queen Porsche. Amazing.

Tomer, although I don't know where in Cali you are there a a few tracks here with no walls and lots of run off, Willow Springs, Buttonwillow & Thunderhill to name a few. The fear lessens with seat time. Viperdays would be a great first event, there's one in Sept. at Buttonwillow, learn from the people who know Vipers, it's alot different car then a BMW, Porsche ect.

Paul you're right on, learn to drive on street tires, this teachs you how to drive then how to drive it to the limits. I've only been road couring for a year but I have 30 track days in that year and have resisted running Hoosiers until I thought I was ready, which I am.
