How Can I Get The Fan To Kick On Earlier?

When Sitting @ A Red Light, my car heats until it hits the yellow marker on the temp gauge. I can smell the anti-freeze cooking. Then the fan kicks on and holds it steady until I get moving and can bring the temp back down. Is there a way to get the fan to kick on earlier and hold the temp down lower?
I read the upgrade to install the Roe Fan Kit. But it only seems to be... for after you shut the car down. If anyone has a suggestion, please advise. Thanks

Jeff, You can add the switch to the Roe Fan kit (as I have done) and it then lets you cut the fan on at will. In the "OFF" position the fan kit works as if the switch wasn't there and will kick the fan on after your turn the car off....if needed. :)

Are you sure that head gaskets are OK...and that cooling system fully checks out OK (including a vigorous burping...possible dye test) ???

No one probably noticed that his Viper is a 92  , so it doesn't have A/C unless he added it on.

The Sean Roe kit is probably the best solution.

Steve,
I re-built Jeff's motor last year: from the lower end and up. Cooling system is good.

Jeff,
You Temp is ok, but I know how you feel, "It's to hot" .
I would go with what Tony said! Add a switch to Roe's fan kit.

Jeff, also for peace of mind, buy a "slip sensor under the rubber hose temperature sensor" kit and see what it really is. While diagnosing something else, I used an OBD sensor and the temperature gauge sending unit and the ECU temperature sending unit were 10F-15F different. They did sort of follow each other, slightly out of phase, but it does illustrate that what the gauge shows may not be what the real temperature is (i.e. Ron's oil pressure gauge is another example.) Some of this may be yellow-itis.

Thanks Tony, What Chuck said. I'll probably talk with Sean Roe and get it sorted out. I did install the Roe Racing Hoses with a bleeder near thermostat, and I know coolant has been topped off.
... "Just put the AC on". Your probably right, but in the age of automazation, looking for something to do the thinking for me. That may be a contradiction, but its worth a shot.
Thanks!

Who manufactures the slip temp sensor? For the record my Gen1 reacted the same way. My Gen 2 fan seems to come on sooner.

I talked with Sean Roe yesterday. Sean said to let the car idle and watch when the fans switch off and on. Everything seemed to be working normally. The car would not go to the yellow.
What I did notice was that I could hear air being sucked in around the intake manifold. So I got out my torke wrench and retorked the manifold down. Then went for a ride. The car ran much better. No bucking at low speed. The car stopped popping between gears. It did heat up but no smell of anti-freeze cooking.
Fan kit on order from Roe Racing.
