What kind of paper or tape or the like can I put on my quarter panels to protect the car from debris kicked up by the tires especially when slicks are run. Shelf paper won't stick. Thanks in advance.
I use Racers Tape, 200mph tape, high quality colored duct tape, whatever you prefer to call it. It sticks well, peels off rather cleanly, and does a good job at protecting. Not the prettiest, but inexpensive and functional. I put it on the lower rear quarters, headlights, foglights, and side mirrors. Sometimes I put in on parts of the nose, but not frequently (where do you stop?).
Yep both are good but if you try your local small airfield or airfield supply shop and get some Helecopter tape its clear very tuff, as it was used in the Gulf War by the good guys.
You can make a paper template.
Put mine on with water and washing up detergent (liquid) and squeegy out the water with a plastic blade.
A simple and inexpensive trick is to spray "PAM" on those areas. While not a substantial barrier to stones, it will cause a significant decrease in damage as many pebbles will bounce off the slick surface with little damage. In addition it protects from tar and hot rubber that is often difficult to remove. A simple wipe of a cloth and the car is clean. Be careful not to get PAM on your tires or brake rotors. Makes for easier cleanup. Especially helpfull when you are really "cooking" down the straights.
In an emergency duct tape will provide a stone resistant barrier, however it is a chore to remove the adhesive left behind.
The best product is the 3M Paint Protection Film. Some auto stores carry it in the 1 ft. x 84 in. size, or you can call 3M:
877-666-2277 for a dealer near you.
Clear Bra also makes a kit that fits on Vipers made from the 3M tape. I believe that it is made to stay on longer than one or two races (so I cannot atest as to how easy or difficult it is to remove). It covers the splash area, mirrors and front fascia.

Put a good heavy coat of wax and dont worry about it.The drag racers use some stuff that looks like dry wax that works pretty good but What are you going to do when you hit something? There are only 2 types of Racers, those who have crashed, and those who havent crashed yet! Believe it! I have been track driving for almost 15 years & some paint chips are inevitable. In fact they are badges of honor! Your Viper is a road car or a show car, it can't be both. Enjoy!
K-MART
CLEAR CONTACT PAPER
CUT INTO 2" STRIPS
APPLY TO INSIDE OF WHEEL WELLS, AROUND FRONTS OF SILLS
looks like "c....p" but it works and it peels off leaving no glue etc behind.
The nose is going to get stone chipped, as are the underside of the sills and the side of the sills where they bulge out.
Windscreen will take a beating too.
Brake components - well get ready to spend, spend, spend!
rule of thumb - for every hour spent on the track - expect to spend two or more hours working on the car
, I can't stay off the track I'm addicted, is there a 12 step progam for this addiction? Buttonwillow next weekend, Willow Springs 2 weeks after that, where does it end?
Seriously though thanks for your responses but I need to know where to get these items, websites etc.
