How do you remove the radiator fan (the two fan system) on early GEN Is? I can't seem to figure it out. There are two bolts on top easy as can be to remove. Than I look underneath it, on the sides, etc. and can't find anything more holding it on. Furthermore the fans plastic shroud that the fans are connected to doesn't seem to have an end that I can find. I mean it looks to be a part of a whole piece that goes from driver’s side to passenger’s side on the front of the car.

I have the 95 book that shows the later made one fan (not the two fan on the early cars) and four bolts top and bottom holding it on. That is not the case for the two fan system.

Taking out my radiator to get it cleaned out and pressure tested is getting to be more of pain than it might be worth.

My only experience is changing the single offset fan to the newer fan in the middle. But, can't you remove the fan and radiator together, then once out of the car see how they come apart?

Have you purchased the 1993 Service Manual ? They do have these for sale. Call JonB he will give you the phone #, and since your a member you will receive a discount on the final price.

Can I? Are there just to bolts up top? And nothing else holding the radiator in? Can I just slide it out from there? Or am I missing something?

yes take them out togather, there may be little clips that are holding them togather, You have to "fish" out the rad to get it out, but it does come out...

Obviously must disconnect the hoses...

Put a large (radiator size) piece of cardboard between the fan and the engine when you pull it out. That will keep too many things from catching and grabbing the fan when you pull up.

The newer center-mounted fan is much, much better at moving air. When I went from the offset to the center mount, the Hoover vacuum sound appeared, the coolant temp shoots down, especially when the AC is turned on, and in fact, to cool the engine after an AX run or track time, the AC went on. The downside is that the newer fan shroud mounting holes don't line up with the old radiator and you have to disassemble the electric connector plug because new and old plugs are different.

I think these fans are pretty reasonably priced, too.

Early Gen 1. The early Gen 1 that I helped with had a fan shroud that wasn't removable until the front end of the car was removed. We had to pull several things to get the radiator out, much bigger job than removing mine on my 96 GTS. I also don't think it was a candidate for the new fans/shroud unless a major parts swap would allow.

That car was mine and he's correct; we did the work at a friend's house with a 1994 and the setup from an early 1993 to a 1994 is completely different. When my car was in the shop last week I inquired about doing a fan swap and Weaver laughed at me. That thing is NOT coming out without some sawing.

Yes, I disconnected the hoses, the wires to the fans and the two top bolts can't find anything else to disconnect. But I still have my roe kit on so that's blocking my line of sight. Is there any thing else I am missing? Or should I just try and wiggle it out? It doesn't feel like it's going to come right out. :dunno:

Do you have an ac condenser, if so get ready to pull it as well. Jason, myself and another person tried every way possible and the radiator wouldn't come out until we pulled the condenser.
