Just wondering how the two compare... what exactly did they change? Also, I just found a couple pics of the 2001 concept Viper, it looks remarkably like the 2003 Competition Coupe. but, in the pics, they show a shot of the engine and talk a little about it. in this concept, the engine still looks like a Gen 2, but has the same numbers as a Gen 3. which engine will the new Comp Coupe get? the one that looks like the Gen 2 engine, or the one that is in the SRT-10? In the writing, all they said that has to change to jump the Gen 2 engine to 500+HP/500+TQ is to change the exaust, and lower the oil pan a little farther from the engine to keep the crank out of the oil, and do a little boring on the intake tract. since this is the case, why did they bother developing the new engine? or is it only the "looks" they changed? Thinking about this, it also brings one more thing to light... since they upped the displacement on the SRT-10 engine, and it's only making 500/500, the overall performance of HP/TQ per liter DROPPED compared to the 2001 concept with a gen2 engine! which also leads you to believe that nothing really changed for the better. opinions?

I think most of your confusion is that the original concept had a Gen II engine in it and that it made 450HP though they told everyone it would have 500HP. They just stuck a 450HP Gen II in there so the car would have an engine. That's NOT the engine that's going to be in the production car. In fact they were still working on the intake (redesign) recently. So very few people could even answer specific questions about the 2003 engine at this time, and they are not talking.
