So I went to the track this weekend for the first time with my 96 GTS. The mods are only Edelbrock headers, no cats, Belanger exhaust. Yes, it still has Mopar paper air filters:( Track conditions was decent, but I was leaving about 2,700 RPM's. I had some wheelspin in first, and some when I shifted to second.

60' 2.186
1/4 12.373
MPH 121.83

The runs was made in Alabama and it was in the upper 50's I guess. I more concerned if the MPH is about right.

You can easily get that 60' down to 1.8s with a little practice.

Do you have newer Pilots or the originals on?

MPH looks good!! :2tu:

I ran at Steele, AL. I would have posted, but it was kinda a that night decision. I have brand new Pilot sports with 35 PSI in them. I was shifting around 5,600 or 5,700. How/what is the best place to shift and RPM to leave at? Like I said, the track wasnt that great. I still thought I could get at least a 2.0:)

What tires was you running GTS Jerry when you ran your time? That is a great time!

You can take the tire pressure down to around 20psi, and shift around 5500. I don't know if that will help much but you will get a little more tire on the ground. I am running kumho v700s. They are great for traction, 12.3 is not to bad especially if you haven't been to the track alot.

If you're going to run street tires, go with 18-19 psi and launch just off idle. At 35 psi, you were probably spinning most of the way through 1st and second. My best 60" time on pilots was a 1.72, The best I have seen was JD at the last race (V-10 Nationals) with a 1.69. He just beat me out for the trophy

Not much, just a little to knock off the rocks and crap. Street tires won't get any more sticky after an extended burnout.

Your trap speed is very good, showing lots of power. Nip the 60ft time under 2 seconds and you might see high 11s with some practice.

I had heard that you don't want to get the stock tires under 24PSI because you get less traction with the tires only making contact on the outside edges. Also even with tons of torque running from idle will bog the engine.

I had better luck launching between 1500-2000RPM, getting a little spin on launch, but shaving time off in the 1/4.
Also I shift a little early into 2nd (around 5300) to avoid wheelspin hitting second.

But a LOT depends on track prep and conditions.

Good times for your first time out in the Viper.

I managed a 1.89 60' on Stock Pilots.

I launched at 2000rpm and went full throttle as soon as I felt it grab.

I had the Pilots at 26-28# of pressure in the rear.

The big problem with the Pilots was I could not keep it from hopping uncontrolably on the 1-2 shift and had to completely back out of it to get it back under control.
The result was a [email protected] grannyshifting in to a 20mph headwind.

I have recently put Kumho V700s on and will try again on 4/29th.

Your mph is great, get that 60' down in to the 1.9s and you will see easy 11s.

Good luck,

Howard
