I've been thinking about getting one, I looked at the mach 7's and WOW those are awesome but as little as I feel like I will use a top I was thinking a factory hardtop might be a better choice for me being how pricey the mach 7 three piece tops are (but they are amazing). I looked on ebay (only way I know to see what something is worth) and in the completed listings there was one for 1650 + 150 shipping but it didn't sell so was just wondering what I should pay if I come across a nice used one???

I think you'll be surprised how much you use your top! I have left mine on for most of the year. Go for the mach 7.

I just recently purchased a used factory hardtop for my '98 RT. I searched around to find a red one, but most of the time found black or gray. Prices ranged from $1,200 - $2,400 plus shipping (which for me was anywhere from $100 to $250). There was just a used factory Gen II top in red on Ebay a few months back, asking around $1,500-$1,600.

I was fortunate, as I think patience helps. I picked up a red hardtop from a '98 RT from one of the members here. He was great, we agreed on a price of $1,400 including shipping and then he gave me $50 off once we were finalizing the deal. Built a shipping crate to ship UPS. Try to be patient and buy from a member, I'm now convinced that is the first place to look.

Other places to try:

- Jon at Parts Rack, he usually has a few used sitting around
- Call some of the Viper performance shops
- Obviously, Ebay, but that is a really hit or miss thing

BTW, you didn't say what generation Viper you have. If you are looking for a Gen I top, then the member I bought mine from may still have a Gen I top in excellent condition.

Good luck on your search.

Not a stupid question, as I had to look it up. I think it is Mach 7 Motorsports and they make the 3-piece "trunktop." Here is the link:

AVOID THIS:

They make great stuff, and the trunktop is a really well-designed piece. My personal preference is for the factory top and that's why I bought one.

:D

KY, it is cold right now :) I installed my soft top (was never put on the car I was told) and it looks ok, but no where near the others. I saw one on ebay just go for 900 plus 150 shipping so maybe that is a good price?

For what it's worth...there was an Autoform top and hard windows on my 96 when I bought it....the I wasn't into the hard top/windows and the dealer said he'd try to sell it for me. Jon B's been keeping his ear to the ground for me as well.

Some like the Autoform tops best, but it's all personal opinion. This one is black, if it matters.

My car was originally from Boca, so I guess he never felt the need to order the hardtop when he bought the car.
